You're an Idiot if You Smoke Pipes More Than $50!

That was a great read. I smoke for the enjoyment of the activity itself, and for the most part I have been using my cob, and some meerschaum lined briars that I picked up on the cheap. I like these because I can smoke the heck out of them, and submit them to a fair amount of abuse without any worry. That said, I do have a few nicer pipes (and on the lookout for others) for special occasions, or days that I really want to feel like a fancy gent.

I believe that looking down on anyone most of the time comes from low self esteem. If you have respect for yourself than it is easy to have it for others as well even thou they are different than you.

As far as pipes go I regularly smoke and enjoy pipes worth 20$-1000$.

But we all agree that cigs are nasty. And that’s what really matters. Luxury tobacco and kickass pipes for the win. Spend a little, or spend a lot. As long as the pipe world lives on I’m good.

Excellent article Kevin! In keeping with the Forum Personality thread, I've always found it odd that this forum tends to attract reverse snobs more than the other. It's sad on both sides but I've found pride in high price is pointless while pride in shallow ignorance just sad on a whole other level.

Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive, but comments like "you can't do better than a cob" or "all you need is a Dr. Grabow" seem like borderline reverse snobbery to me. Cobs are great for the money, but obviously you can do much, MUCH better.

I think there are a lot of people that just like a good deal. More bang for the buck. But guess if I got a Bang for a buck, it would be a great deal I would be proud to smoke! :D

Excellent article, Kevin! I couldn't explain the subject any better than that for sure. Although I would have excepted Bizarro-Snobs (In reference to Bizarro:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarro) or Anti-snobs, I think Reverse-snobs is a good term to use.

The article was inspired by actual posts in these forums. I started it back in mid-July, but then had to jump on other things that would get stale with the passing of time, and left this one to sit, as it is an evergreen topic.

Maybe I haven't paid attention and I know I haven't been here very long, but so far I have not seen any reverse snob posts. I know there are people here who love their cobs, and that is great, but I haven't seen anyone say cobs and grabows are all you need, I would have commented for sure if I had. I think Van is just feeling guilty for spending 3 grand on his last pipe. :nana:

Good read. There are lots of good pipes in all kinds of price ranges....Now I have to admit though that my 16 year old daughter is not fond of being seen in public with me when I am smoking a cob. Sometimes I pick a cob just because I am going somewhere to pick her up.
