This has to be my most unusual pipe. My late Grandpa got it while he was in Japan during the Korean War.

How does that Zeppelin smoke? Is it difficult to keep lit? I've sort of been looking for something like that but they are very expensive (They were made by Vauen, I think, to be smoked in ... zeppelin air ships. Apparently they are shaped to prevent accidental sparks).

Yeah vauen makes a newer model and i dont know about those. The kind I have I got on ebay pretty reasonably, it was like 20 dollars. On this version the end cap unscrews and you pack it from that end. It packs very tight which keeps it lit pretty well. If it dies on you I use the poker part of a pipe tool, stick it through the slats to unscrew the end cap and tamp it then screw cap back on and relight, but I loaded up and drove home from work probably about 20 minutes last week and it stayed lit the whole way. It also unscrews in the middle for easy clean out. If you keep your eye out on ebay you can get one of these pretty cheap and it is a fun smoke, besides it just looks awesome chugging down the road!

Thanks, it sounds like a good car pipe. I could use such a creature. :)

Yes it is a bone stem. I'm not sure what the bowel is made from, some kind of wood.

The Pipe wasn’t made of Bakelite, but rather were plastic with pyrolytic graphite bowl liners. For more information check out the link below.

This one is a Boswell. I forget what they called it Exotic Plateau Freehand if I remember correctly, but I am really not sure. It is the only pipe I own that is ridiculously obtuse; however, it is very comfortable in the hand. All of my Boswells are great smokers, and this is no exception.

rhogg, did you just pick that up recently? I saw a similar pipe on the Boswell site a few weeks back.

I did actually...... Funny thing is people are starting buy Boswell pipes and relist them almost immediately on ebay for a profit. If you watch the Boswell pipes and then go to ebay you will see them again too. lol
In fact this is so new that the tobacco you see in it was from this morning and was my first smoke out of it. Billy Bud is just plain good in a Boswell.

Great, which is why it was so hard for me to actually buy a Boswell from their site in the first place!

I now have joined the ranks of the pyrolytic graphite-enhanced pipe smokers:

Maybe it's not that unusual, but damn, it's blue, people! :)

My Bartlett pipe from the 80's. Unscrew the cap, fill it, screw the cap back on, and light it through the bottom. If nothing else, it never gurgles.

This is a Rettke briar pipe made in Washington Mo. about 50 or 60 years ago.

The shank has two connected chambers one with an aluminum condenser and the other with a

standard Medico filter. The smoke path is twice the length of the shank, first passing over the condenser then

thru the filter. Smokes great. Missouri Meerschaum purchased the Rettke company sometime in the 1970's.

I have two Zeppelin pipes, on is the same as Shaintiques except its brown. The other is a Pinehurst, and I believe it is bakelite. I also have a little nose warmer. The nosewarmer isn't really weird, per say, but I consider it weird because its so small

I see this thread was revived from 4 months ago, but I wanted to add mine to the gallery.
I came across this on ebay one time and lost the bid. I had to do some hard searching to find another one, and found it at an antique store in NC. Bought it for like $20. It's now my gameday pipe and a neat conversation piece for my Tennessee room.

I wish Rigmedic had a better camera. That's one interesting pipe... smokes from the bottom up. CRAZY!
How's she smoke though?
