Since I started smoking a pipe only back in May, it's all pretty new to me. However, my favorite also fits the req's and that is Whimsical.

Over the summer I've found that I have an inclination towards VaPer blends. I found Anthology to be decent, prefer Back Down South over it, but next year I have a few others on the docket to try. Around fall I first tried pure Virginia in Capstan, both Blue and Yellow. I have to say other than Whimsical, Capstan Blue would be second on my favorite as it was the fastest tin I smoked through. Orientals have peaked my interest and would take suggestions for good (non-latakia) blends. Fox Campanile is what I've been sampling and is tasty when the mood fits.

Blends I'm really looking forward to smoking next year when the weather warms up are Uno, Aberrant (& Eccentric when released along with the rest of the BoF series), Orlick Golden Sliced, Solani 633, and John Cotten's Double Pressed Virginia.

I tried a few new blends this year but none really floated my boat.
I keep coming back to my Peterson's Signature Flake, solid, underrated and now discontinued.

Hearth and Home - Ten to Midnight Small.pngCountry Squire - Green Dragon Small.png

Green Dragon is my favorite of The Country Squire that I've tried. It's got a hint of spiciness that I just love. Almost like it's spiced with cloves without the sweetness and finished with white pepper. It's very interesting.

H&H's Ten to Midnight is a masterpiece. I tried White Knight this year as well and I immediately bought a replacement tin. I now have a lot from their catalog, so we'll see what gets cracked in 2023!

I have two:

Sillem’s Musketeer. An aromatic with a base cube cut burley and big hunks of cavendish. It burns slow and cool, and has a great balance of flavors between the tobacco and topping

Low Country Edisto. A red Virginia flake, that’s tangy, sweet, simple, and reliable. I like it just fine fresh, but I think it’s gonna be great with some age. It’s already pretty mild and smooth, and as mentioned sweet. Could be like candy in a few years
@krizzose I'll have to try the Musketeer in my clay pipes; with a name like Musketeer it's a must try blend for a clay pipe smoking Redcoat:)
I like the tin art with the English Civil War era clay pipe smoking Redcoat!
I'd save the tin for use as an ashtray.

Esoterica’s Pembroke & GH’s Aniseed Twist were the best ‘new to me’ blends. Highlight of the year though was getting to smoke Velvan plug again, after a trade on here.

Mac Baren Navy Flake. Maybe my technique has improved, or my vibe has changed, but it did not taste like poop and dirt.

In 2022 I tried newminster 400 and purchased more to cellar. I've been buying the increasingly impressive blends from C&D generally limited release like Sunbear, and KBV Van Gogh and Meditations. Those are the new ones for me. Have not had any recent blends from most other houses because I have enough in the cellar and only smoke from time to time now. Still buy (way) more than I probably need...but you never know, one day I'll work less than 12 hrs a day (not complaining...thats the drill) and have more leisure time!

Best one... probably Van Gogh for me. Meditations and the rest are top shelf though.

I really liked Van Gogh as well. Have you tried Mr. Christian's Brown Flek from KBV?
