I've posted this pic before, but never thought of them as my best "cheap" pipes. Guess they are as I only paid $25 each for them. puffy

Like, that's a major haul. Bargoon of epic proportions! The only thing I've ever encountered of the same ilk I can think of at the moment are several old large format cameras I bought for my stint in the photo studio realm that would have cost me a fortune if I had of bought the same cameras new! And they, too, were in stellar condition. Most admirable, sir! True treasures!

OK, here are three I purchased this evening in an eBay auction each for under $20 ($19.50; $19.50 and $16.50).

They are all smooth 50+ year old briar with soft clean ebonite stems. Two were new, unsmoked old stock and the third was in excellent condition and was cleaned, polished and even re-drilled by the seller, Tim West, who has been at this since the 1960s. If you are a new (or seasoned) pipe smoker on a budget, why buy an estate pipe you have to refurbish?

Below are the pickaxe, a billiard and a small apple. Check out the condition. If you are patient and persistent, these pipes are still out there.

Appreciate the kind words. I think, however, you may have missed the point. $25 was the retail price of a Castello (if you could find one) back then. puffy

My best - ahem - least expensive - pipe: an estate marked 'M. Elliott Jersey' on the base of the shank. Very light for a briar, so I suspect it's pearwood. Paid £4.99 for it on eBay a few weeks ago. I have no idea of its age, stem is Vulcanite, no idea who 'M Elliott' is, or was. Perhaps just a one-off that he rusticated with a Dremmel and carved the head of the old salt in a sou'wester on the front - who knows? I could always try psychometry to find out... anyway, it's light, smokes cool, clenches superbly and slips nicely into a pocket.

My favourite "beater" that I use everyday rain, wind or shine. Cost me around £8 online. Smokes beautifully and has done from the 1st bowl. Marked "Yersey-F" and "208" never been able to find a single bit of information about it. But I love it just slightly less than my wife!
