a while back i had posted about swearing off anything that was non aromatic and how I felt like giving up because i could never taste the "grassy" virginias or the "nutty" burleys. the only flavors i ever tasted were w aros and i just didnt "get" standard non aro blends. they all seemed very one note. I saw them as plain and boring. i received the standard advice i see given frequently which is slow down, focus on your cadence, pack correctly, light correctly and ultimately give yourself time to become a better pipe smoker. I was told countless times it would come and id soon appreciate all of the subtle nuances and flavors that non aros provide. Well i took it to heart and have really been focusing on all of the advice and experimenting w different blends, specifically VaPers. im happy to report that ive had my lighbulb moment. over the past month i have come to absolutely adore some non aro blends and when reaching in the cellar no longer gravitate towards the aros i used to. Ill occasionally throw in an autumn evening or a xmas blend for fun but its been straight VaPers for weeks. its great to have things click and discover flavors i had been missing.

funny. ive been pretty obsessed w flakes myself lately. G&H Rum Flake is my fav but have been rotating GH Bobs chocolate flake, PS Luxury twist flake, PS Navy Flake

ha. not sure theres enough experience or time in the world to make me a latakia man. im sloowwly working in blends w small amounts of lat but i learned early on lat tends to give me a headache and turn my stomach a bit. never say never thoughLatakia time?It's another planet.
I was once an aromatico' smoker, I then went to burleys and Virginias. I finally tried latakia in my early days, thought it was absolutely horrid ! I assumed the tin had gone moldy or something. I took it back to the B&M shop and the owner laughed at me, he said that's Gooooood LATAKIA. We laughed and I traded it in for some Edgeworth.
About 10 years later I fell in love with latakia. And GLP's blends.

Spent about a decade exclusively smoking heavy lat blends and then one morning completely lost my taste for them. Anything with much latakia in it now tastes exactly the same.
Things will only get better as your palate for straight tobaccos develops. It's something to look forward to! You'll know you've "arrived" when it becomes the greatest pleasure you can have with your pants on.
Diff folks, diff strokes! Was turned on to English blends by the dean of students at my university, and have loved them ever since.
I'm happy for you. And yes, the very experienced folks around here sure know what they're talking about.
It's amazing how a cheap, bulk, rum heavy aromatic can be so satisfying and tasty when smoked slowly. I think I'll pick up a pound or two of Stuliff's Spiced Rum soon.

While that is my favorite of the CB line-up, I was mostly referring to the aros from Dan Tobacco, Rattray's, and Milan.?
I've come to realize you don't represent the norm. LOL I am a staunch natural blends sort of smoker but just last weekend, purchased some C&D Corn Cob Pipe and Autumn Evening while I was visiting a B&M with a lounge. I wanted to purchase something in order to support their business and hospitality. Glad I did. i've enjoyed both blends. Little danger of either becoming part of my daily rotation but I will smoke both from time to time.
That's been me for years, but in recent months I've had a helluva sweet tooth.?
