Cosmic, I will have to say...being an engineer and all...and my propensity towards liking anything mechanical in nature...I'd smoke the hell out this one:

For starters, I wouldn't be likely to afford any of these exotic pipes anyway. I enjoy looking at them, so thanks.

Sounds like a brand I could learn to love. I'm always into that sort of thing. I love unique, but some of the ones I've seen above are a little too, how shall I put this...almost lazy in their design? I like the form of unique that adds a little bit to the wood. I mean, I really dig that telescoping stem.

I like the steampunk looking one but it seems like the tailpiece fitting should go into the round fixture and not above it.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. As much as I hate kitsch, I have a certain admiration for the steampunk genre.

The whole steam punk thing comes from a subculture that is limited and generational, I think, but some of the artifacts it produces, like the pipes, have a broader appeal. I don't think a person would have to be part of the clothes and music of steam punk to enjoy the zany creativity of one of these pipes. They do have a certain eye appeal. They are definite conversation pieces for pipe clubs, pipe shows, smoking at the pipe shop.

I think I would just enjoy something like this Nate King being in my collection. Might be fun to take it on a stroll about a pipe show or club as stated above, but I just love the sort of feel for this one. I concur, that you don't have to be into the clothing or music to appreciate it, and I think that's where most of my interest stops. I mean it's neat looking, but I enjoy the things created more than the lifestyle itself. I've always been intrigued by the computer keyboards that have been retrofitted with old typewriter keys, or USB flash drives built out of old, filament style light bulbs, for example. That pipe would certainly have place in my rotation just for the style.

Steampunk isn't exactly a lifestyle or subculture, not like a metalhead, hippie, or hipster. It's more like something someone enjoys dressing up as "occasionally" and going to cons, where they can mingle with their favorite comicbook, majga, or pornstar, while dressed up as something from a Tom Petty video. :puffy:

I should clarify - My admiration for steampunk ends with a few artistic items. I couldn't care less about the lifestyle or dress up part of the genre.

That Nautilus is unbelievable. Not sure what the occasion for smoking it would be, possibly an underwater themed party...but not Little Mermaid. 20,000 Leagues maybe.
