Would You—or Do You—Wear a Smoking Cap?

A sartorial option for the home, or for the pipe club? The smoking cap came up in conversation among some of my brother Freemasons on social media the other day, and I thought I'd share the link here.

I've considered getting smoking hats for our pipe club ala the Raccoon Lodge from The Honeymooners. I'd love to know the history behind smoking caps and why anyone would feel compelled to wear one.

I wear one but truth is....I wore them before I started smoking a pipe, I have several of them.

My now ex brother in law actually made me a smoking cap. Its very nice. Problem is...I have a big head and a thick head of hair. It only fits after a fresh hair cut.

I have my backyard baseball cap, so that gets worn when I smoke.

Nopity, nopity, nope. I have no clue why one would need or desire a smoking cap or require a smoking jacket. If you are in a room full or pipe or cigar smokers, only a hazmat suit will keep you free of smelling like smoke. Unless there is another reason for these things (yes Kevin, I understand your fashion statements) I would rather spend my money on ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, or Firearms).

I kind of doubt I'd ever put it on. But I used to have a smoking jacket and really liked it. Always knew where my lighter was.

That looks absolutely ridiculous to me. And smoking in public already makes you a focal point of attention, I'd rather not intensify it any further.

I wear hats/caps quite often but not necessarily for smoking. I may have one on when smoking but not because I'm smoking. Don't see :: myself ever wearing one of the hats pictured above.
