I hear it as a criticism more often than the original sense (criticizing a statement that might offend something somewhere.) But no fondness for it anyway it's used.

"Shut up!" when it's used as an expression of disbelief. It stops me in my tracks every time somebody uses that on me. If they are really telling me to shut up, I guess that's ok.

I recall in the 1980s, in academic writing, paradigm and deep structure were used ad nauseum apart from Kuhn's and Chomsky's applications. Aporia is popular with the hegemony crowd.
The problem is that people often let language do their thinking for them, which means they're not thinking much at all.

I have come to hate a lot of phrases, and topically anything that is trying hard to be politically correct without a reason... e.g. People with female body type .. but since we're a pipes forum, here's a new one that ticks me... calling my baccy and pipes your cigarettes
