One of my pet peeves in word choice is the now near universal use of "contain" as in "he broke contain" by TV football announcers instead of "containment" as would be proper. Happened to watch a rerun of a 10 year-old football game recently and the announcers were properly using the word containment. So, it's just in the past decade that all the TV announcers for football forgot how to speak properly.

I have no problem with any of these. English is my second language although I spoke it longer than Korean. Also due to my choice of work, I dealt with fair number of those who doesn't speak English, but insist they do. And people with perfect English, but with very strong native accent. After awhile, it's not what or how they say things, but what they meant to say.

I would love to be able to speak French. I took 7 years of it in school and remember very little. When I vised Paris in 2000, I made sure if I needed a questioned answered I would give them Parley Vous Englaise? They appreciated that I didn;t just come at them with English. I was treated really well as me and the wife were always dressed nice. It made a difference I believe.
