But then they reappeared on their website, and a new member recently reported having purchased one. ?That was the last I heard from MM. They were phasing out the hardwoods.

MM has been closed for over a month, but other sites still have some in stock. But then they reappeared on their website, and a new member recently reported having purchased one. ?
It was my understanding that their producing the hardwood pipes was a business expedient during a time when their corn crops didn't provide sufficient cob inventory.
They only use white dent corn that produces fat cobs. During drought years they limit production on their larger pipes.Hard to believe given the billions of corn cobs produced annually. Unless they've determined to use only custom crops.
What @chasingembers said above - they have a particular strain of corn they use, developed years ago for both and size and density of the cob itself.Hard to believe given the billions of corn cobs produced annually. Unless they've determined to use only custom crops.
