In a new meerschaum I have never noticed and added flavors like when breaking in a briar. On the other hand an estate that has been subjected to decades of aros may take a while (and lots of cleaning ) to clear up.

I have a meer, it ran me about 50 bucks and is a nice medium sized billiard that really sings. I like it because I don't have to dedicate it as much as other pipes, and the more I smoke it the more I feel like I need another.
And then I go into the B&M and realize that I just blew my last paycheck on pipes and tobaccos.

What about the pipes that SMS offer in the $59-$89 range. Would you consider those good starter Meerschaum pipes Fred?

SMS tend to be good pipes in my opinion. I have had a few and traded them off. Now I wish I had kept one or two.
