Simple questions get derailed so often here now. This is fast becoming a chore just to slog through responses from bitter adults acting like children... This used to be an interesting place.

Anyway, my answer would be my Grandfather on my Mother's side. He died when I was around 5.

I just finished a book by horror writer, Harlan Ellison. I didn't know until finished that he was a pipe smoker. Quite an interesting individual and such a creative writer.

Born in 1934, he was not only successful in his own writings but worked and contributed to such classics as "The Twilight Zone" and the original "Star Trek." While he never touched drugs or alcohol, it was said that he was very bold and had a huge ego and was tough for many to work with. Ellison died just a few years ago in 2018.

While I have already listed a "person with whom I'd like to smoke", after reading his book, I think he would be a hoot to chat with.

Not to "re-ignite" the Faulkner love-fest..... I was looking at this photo and it seems that he is smoking a Dunhill of some kind as I can see the white dot on top of stem.
Can any of you identify the style or model of the Dunhill??

I'm unsure if that's a Dunhill, but it is a fact that he smoked Britwoods, particularly Comoys, so a Dunhill would make sense. I read an article posted on this forum somewhere about how he would give away his Comoy pipes to friends after a year or so of regularly smoking and just buy more for the next year. It certainly beats the heck out of cleaning 'em.

Angus McDonald. One of the formal Pipe Major of the Scots Guards. If you listen to some of his recordings, you can hear his foot tapping. Seems like a fine gent while he was alive.

Vincent van Gogh. He was a pipe smoker through and through and saw the world in a completely unique way. I can't imagine myself being able to hold a coversation with a mind like that, but I would love to puff and listen to his musings as he waxed on about art and colour and the world through his eyes, as be too puffed away.
