It seems there is a new kid in town, with some aromatics from Wilson of Sharrow. Has anyone had a chance to try them yet? Aromatics generally aren't my thing, but on the other hand it seem that we should support anyone trying to enter the market to keep things going.

Not sure if any of our revolutionary cousins over the pond will be able to get their hands on any though.

The make great nasal snuffs. I’ve never thought about them as a pipe tobacco outfit. Interesting.
they used to make clay pipes and have sold smoking frickafrack (haven't heard that term in a while). Yeah one problem I have with them and their nasal snuff. I try to only buy bulk (I don't know the magic formula but bulk snuff is always better then tinned, always) yet they make it hard to get in America.

Looks to be UK based, likely no shipping to the US. Aromatics keep the pipe tobacco industry going, indulge to your heart's content.
I bet part of the reason they're doing pipe tobacco is to reenter the American market. Since it's easier for them since more places sell pipe tobacco. They used to be great at sending stuff to America even back in the day when you had to call them on the phone and talk to the very nice people there.

My thoughts exactly! I am a naive optimist, despite plenty of experience and some grey hairs to show for it, so perhaps with Brexit making it harder to import stuff, the home made industry will see a revival?
Brexit in part. They still have to follow the same rules they did before Brexit without any of the benefits. (oh my opinion on Brexit... It's not my choice and stay or go or both valid just depends on what matters to you, I know we're not supposed to get into it, but wanted to say neither for or against) but the PACT act (the o.g. one not the new one) when cigarette companies lobbied for the post office not to be able to ship the products that might supplant theirs (cigs from out of state, snuff oral and nasal, but pipe stuff and cigars fine). Fun fact the idiots who wrote that bill didn't think about how many care packages for military folks involve tobacco, and that would have been a real easy exemption to make and one with some really super clear and easy to cite precedence.

Deeming regulations will make re-entering the American market highly unlikely, unless these are rebranded blends that already have approval.

Probably prohibited from shipping to the US now.

yeah nasal snuff can't go through the mail. Well technically there is a loop hole that only a few companies exploit. Because of common everyday postal treaties technically they have to let nasal snuff go through the mail (the law is fun in that nobody fully understands it, and a slightly different wording means Sweden can't send us stuff but England can). The thing is Mr. Snuff paid a lot of money for a lawyer to find the loop hole that could save his business and Roderick from Toque just doesn't care what the law is.

depends. From what I can see I think my assumption about how the deeming regs would be used seems correct. The substantial equivalent clause seems to be more about the ingredients then the percentages. So just based on the blends that are coming out now I see no reason to assume it would have to be rebranded. I think the issue is we're thinking about it in terms of a connoisseur and not an average person. I doubt they consider burly or va or any other varietal to be anything different it's the same species of plant. If they had the same rules for wine they'd say grapes are grapes..

When Semois was written up in The New York Times, I was intrigued but thought I'd never see it in the U.S. ... and the rest is history. Don't hold your breath, but don't write it off. One of the online U.S. retailers might seize the opportunity. Some smaller blenders don't want to keep up with volume distribution; they may not even want the business.

Sharrow Snuff Mill (Wilson’s of Sharrow) is a very short walk from my house but they haven’t got a shop, it’s all online…the last time I checked, the online shop was saying that there was nothing to display in any of the sections? 🤷‍♂️

I’m going to presume that the tobaccos are going to be influenced by the scents that they add to their snuff, some of which are amazing - Wall, Honey M and Royal George spring to mind.
