New Willmer unsmoked. The flame of briar is incredibly fine and homogeneous and runs all around the pipe. Pity for some small black spot on the briar. The pipe is incredibly light, although it is not small. Currently I smoked it three times, as good as my other Willmer

Great looking Willmer Fabio. The grain is awesome, some of the best I have seen on a Willmer. I am glad you like how it smokes. Congrats on another fine addition to your collection.

Thank you cigrmaster for your appreciation.

I have another (bent billiard shape) waiting from Russia from about 70 days. I hope that sooner or later it will be with me.

Here's a pic of my well loved estate Willmer. It's a AAA Straight Grain. The diameter at the top is 2 inches and 2-3/8" tall. 6 Inches long.

The stem was bit through when I got it but a friend repaired the hole with black superglue. It smokes fantastic!

Sorry, this was my first attempt to post a pic on the forum. Evidently, posting a pic from Screencast won't display here, but the link is good.

Thanks cigrmaster. Found it on ebay several years ago before Willmer got the attention it gets these days. I wasn't aware of the hole in the stem and wanted to return it to the seller, but he decided to just reimburse me for it since I had bought several other pipes from him that day. Not bad for a freebie, huh!

The black superglue fix worked like a charm and is not even noticeable unless you really search for it. Great smoker but certainly too heavy for a clencher, so the stem repair will last me forever.

pipesticks, most of my Willmers are not clenchers as they are all group 6-ODA in size. I don't mind holding them as they barely get warm. Also many of mine have those crazy indents to the bowls making holding them really easy. I have some nice British wood in my collection some being Dunhill and Pre Transition Barlings, and the Willmers cannot be beat in that department.

After reading Sablebrush52's post about how Willmers were stummels smuggled out of Charatan's basement, I went on ebay and searched completed auctions for Charatan Dublin. Sure enough, I found one that looks almost exactly like my Willmer. Cool story and I love learning the history behind these old pipes. Knowing about it's "dodgy" past makes it even more special now.

cigrmaster, I'm a sucker for classic english shapes too, but Dunhills and Pre Transition Barlings are priced a bit out of my league. I do have a good representation of GBD's, Orliks, BBB, Comoy, Hardcastle, etc. though. I have quite a few Orlik seconds that were sold under the name "Royal Sovereign" that are all great smokers, and actually relatively hard to find in the US.

pipesticks, I hear you on their history, I also think it is cool. I do have one Lane Era Charatan Distinction After Hours Dublin that is a very fine smoker. I like their double comfort stems.

Here is the Charatan.

Thanks. I just loaded the pipe with 2004 Samuel Gawith Full Virginia flake. This Charatan was the first pipe that I got a fantastic smoke with the FVF. I had tried a few others and couldn't find a good match. I haven't smoked it in ages because I found other pipes to smoke FVF in, thanks for reminding me it needs some love.

I have a gorgeous rusticated Viprati Dublin with an ivory acrylic stem and marbleized accent ring dedicated to FVF....much smaller than the Willmer and smokes FVF wonderfully. I think I'd be afraid to pack that monster Willmer chamber with it, but it would probably be a good way to go.
