I presume you mean the rubber or silicone seal!
Nice practice, but I am not doing that, though the gasket will get washed.
No, the lid on a screw top. I even do the same with bale tops. I find that no matter how much I wash either lids or gasket, there is always a residual smell. The price is negligible for both, so I'm not too worried about it.

I may have misunderstood the original question. He said lid on jar, so I just assumed he meant a regular twist top jar.

But still I do the same thing for bale top jars. It's just what I've found to work best for me.

Some tins do better than others in keeping the tobacco moist; although living in a dry hot climate doesn't help. The ones that don't do well, I generally put in small mason jars for daily use and keep the remainder in large jars tucked away in a cupboard. The large jars do better than the small ones over the long term and tend to keep the tobacco moist until I run out.

Where would that be?

Please put your location in your Profile, as people are forgetful.
Why: It will save time for others as to where you live when you mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc. In many instances that saves time for those who read your posts, and for you in not having to reply to inquiries. .
How:
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. province, etc.

I prefer to leave in the tin and jar up bulk or maybe to jar up 4 or 5 tins at a time for long term storage.

Side note, every since Dr Pepper’s wife died sometimes he comes in a can and sometimes a bottle. (Yes i have the sense of humor of a 10 yr old).
