If you’re putting the same tobacco in your pipe the following day the reason it tastes like shitty charcoal is that it is now dottle.

I zillion things can affect how a pipes smokes. I don't have a very good sense of flavor and usually go with something I can light and smoke down to the bottom of the bowl.

Relative humidity can play a large part, If you live somewhere like I do where you can have swings of 60% in less than 24hrs it can have an impact pipe smoking quality.

Maybe someone can help with the explanation of why I purchased cheap briar from a bin and it smokes so much better than some of my higher dollar pipes. It just seems to have a great flavor with everything I pack in it.
