I often cube cut straight Virginia flakes and plugs, and they smoke great that way. To my knowledge, there are no commercial cube cut blends that are straight Virginia, as compared to several all burley or burley forward cube cut blends. Does anyone know why that is?

(I’m a fan of Stokkebye Cube Cut, so I’m already aware it has a decent proportion of Virginia)

Cube cut is a good cut. Recently, I've been enjoying a tin of GLP Barbary Coast, with cube-cut burley as a base, Virginias, Perique, with brandy flavoring. The cube cut burns evenly and carries the condiments and flavoring well.

I can't think of any reason cube cut Virginia wouldn't be equally pleasing, and it would probably provide just enough innovation to launch an artful blend of Virginias. The blend could be called Virginias Cubed. Or not. But it is a good idea.

Good question indeed. I've made some cube cut Virginias from my own plugs and they smoke great, as well as being good mixers too.

I have no clue, aside from it's a rare cut regardless of the blend.

For less fuss, try Amphora Virginia blend. It's broken flake that is easy to cube (not to mention delicious and reasonably priced).

I expect that the manufacturers think that if you want to smoke cube cut you can cube cut a flake yourself. One less expense for them.

That makes sense, and certainly self-help in this regard has been my approach. However, manufacturers are more than happy to produce burley cube cuts blends, of which there are more than a few. Perhaps that’s because of the paucity of burley flakes and plugs out there relative to Virginia flakes and plugs.
