Get a new pipe for Christmas? If so, I (and I'm sure others too) would love to hear what you got and what you think of it. Now, be honest, do you love it, hate it, don't really care, or wondering how you can sell it without the wife knowing. Was the first puff better than sex or make you want to go out to the garage and hang yourself? Prying minds want to know!

I got three and some tobacco. I've only tried two so far and they smoked great. I will be trying the last one tonight. One was a MM Pony Express. The second is an unbranded bent carved dublin and the last, which I haven't tried, is a Butz Choquin Arsenal. I haven't seen one of those before so I'm interested to try it. Also got a new ashtray.ashtray.jpgbutz.jpg

A Butz Choquin. You have my deepest sympathies.

I've seen a lot of posts that people have never had a French pipe that smoked well. I've always been willing to give anything a try. I have high hopes for this one since its similar to a Peterson system pipe.
I made a trip to Europe years ago and left my pipe case with 6 Castellos on my bed at home. When I got to Paris I discovered this and went to a nearby smoke shop and because they didn't have an good Italian pipes I bought a BC. All I can say is that was the nastiest smoking pipe I ever put in my mouth. Never again!

Yikes! I hope this one isn't like that. I'm going to give it a go tonight. What was it that was so nasty? The taste or the way it smoked, or both?

Very bitter and acidic. I continued to try it every now and then for some time. I even once cleaned it real good and gave it a honey treatment.... something I never do. Still terrible. Finally I gave up on it and threw it in the trash. Didn't have the heart to even pass it on to another guy.

That happened about 30 years ago. Hope they have improved since then. On the bright side, they couldn't have gotten any worse. Good luck.

I saw this very old Ascorti on the Lanzola site, and pulled the trigger that second. Got here last Thursday, so not technically a Christmas present, but pretty close. Not a "collector" piece but a neat old pipe unsmoked these 30 years. I am making up for lost time now - small billiards get heavy use here. ascorti.jpg
