I'm all for the more peat, the merrier, and I'm particularly fond of the Islay whiskeys. (Ok, off topic, I know, but I couldn't let that last one go. :) )

My wife has her coffee made (by me, who gets up first) in a French press, and likes Ethiopian and

other full strength coffee, some aged in used pepper barrels. I'm a throw-back to an earlier time and

prefer percolator coffee, French roast from Whole Foods, or Eight O'Clock. I've had classier blends

done by classier methods, but just find the stove top perc pot gives me the flavor I want. Starbucks

is over-roasted to me and acidic. Traveling, I'm adaptable and enjoy various coffees, even diner

and restaurant coffee, and some fast-food coffee. McDonald's does a surprisingly good cup, to my

tastes, but a long way from perc'd. Just give me that old stove top perc pot, and I'm a happy boy.

That first cup of coffee has to be the best so I french press every morning with fresh burr ground beans

Millstone breakfast blend won the big coffee taste challenge so I tried it now I can't drink anything else

That how good that is. But it sell out very quick so I buy 10lbs at a time.

Dam why did I tell you people that now I will never find it available. Forget I said a thing.

Just found the name of the Honduran coffee that I mentioned in my previous posting on this thread. It's "Café Copan Bean". Definitely an excellent coffee! Just wish I could find it in the States.

I am fond of Sumatran blends. I love a dark, bold, earthy coffee. With a splash of cream, just to take some bite out.

I mostly buy La Colombe. All their blends are amazing! It's roasted here in philly and is a local favorite. Not sure how wide there market is but you can order on line. http://www.lacolombe.com

La Columbe is rated as one of the finest roasters in the country. They source top quality beans and offer them to their customers at very reasonable prices (relative to the quality.)

As a guy who makes a living by buying, roasting, and selling coffee it is exceedingly gratifying to see the support for high quality, specialty grade, coffees espoused by so many of you.
While I, personally, enjoy a washed Panama (from Volcan if I can get them) and Ethiopian naturals, as a roaster and cafe franchisor I just hope that you guys will all continue buying what you like, and coming back to it more often. In a world of ever increasing prices, the highest quality coffees are still very affordable.
I will say this (full disclosure, the company I work for does produce these...) if you are buying capsules/discs/cups for single cup brewing in any of the major single-cup brewers on the market your price per pound of coffee roughly works out to $20 - $35 per pound. Now just imagine how far that $$ would go at your local independent roaster/cafe, and how many pounds of coffee you'd come home with that is freshly roasted. The other consideration here, is that buying beans (versus capsules/pods/discs/cups) puts you at least two steps closer to the coffee farmer, meaning more of your $$ go back to that farm.
Cheers,
-- Pat
PS - I also LOVE Ravkesef's rule of 15, I'd just change one thing, and suggest that green coffee that is 15 months old is "past crop" and that any reputable roaster should be buying "current crop" which will always be the freshest coffee available to market.

I have tried many coffee blends, both from South America and Hawaii. The coffee that I like best since it is robust and dark is Peet's coffee Major Dickason blend which is one their big blends. There are several Peet's coffee stores in California and many airports in Texas as well as other states. I buy Peet's from Kroger. However, you can buy on-line.

French Market coffee with chickory is the only one I buy. It comes in Kcups, I make it as café au lait, 8oz into a cup with 8oz of hot milk.

I’ll second a vote for Peet’s Major Dickason’s blend. Preferably out of a french press but if I’m in a hurry even the K-cup works just fine. You can’t mess up Peet’s. I have it fresh roasted and shipped to the front door.

I can say Café Copan is my favorite rich and dark with a hint of chocolate .My wife hates my old steam espresso because it requires safety goggles and heat resistant gloves . There is just something about steam making a good cup .
