Maybe not the best metaphor as I like both of these dishes but I get this feeling with my tobacco orders, as I’ve tried more blends, that I often order something I haven’t had; rather than something I ran out of and really liked often with a bit of disappointment. It’s a conundrum as I wouldn’t of discovered two recent favorites: Bob’s Flake and University Flake if I weren’t to step out and try something new. I suppose this is a pretty common growing pain in every young pipe smoker’s life and assume more experience smokers who continue to order samples of things they haven’t tried have greater success rate of adding new favorites, experience and wisdom being what they are. At the end of the day I guess the real solution is to order the chicken cordon bleu with a side of bibimbap.

Yes, I had to lookup bibimbap, sounds good! Yes, I like to constantly try new tobaccos. For me, trying new stuff is the fun of pipe smoking. Some become stuff I would get more of and cellar, some just leave for a while and come back to later.

I know some people just like a few blends and why search for more. Good on them for finding what makes them happy. My dad is a cigar smoker. He only smokes 1 type of Macanudo. I always ask why don’t you try different cigars, experience different flavors etc. Nope, never happens. He knows what he likes and that’s it.

Seriously, if I see I’m running out of a “staple” blend, I try to replace it, and maybe order one or two less of the “first time” items.

Yes, unfortunately it always seems the same site never has both the staple for reorder and whatever’s I’ve made up my mind to try. Then you have to convince yourself that you need pipe cleaners in order to order whatever sample you’ve become obsessed with.

You’ve got a real problem like me when you wanted chicken cordon bleu and instead order 12 bibimbap that you haven’t tried.

Now I’m hungry...

Yeah, I still haven’t sorted out that conundrum. Usually SP has everything I want, but not always.

Unfortunately they don’t have GH bulks which some smaller sites do but those don’t have MacBaren bulks, for example. I had it in my mind I had to try the HH Dark Fired, not sure if it had something to do with my mood yesterday while trying it for the first time it I was underwhelmed.

Trying new blends is one of the best parts of pipe smoking in my opinion. Not everything I try is a true winner but most everything is at east smokeable and enjoyable on some level. The real trip is when you order something you thought you liked a lot only for it to fall completely flat! Did the tobacco change or did I?

The best part of bibimbap is the crusty rice bits at the bottom of the dish.

I had it in my mind I had to try the HH Dark Fired, not sure if it had something to do with my mood yesterday while trying it for the first time it I was underwhelmed.

What didn't you care for? I like it more now but when I first tried it I didn't care for the vinegar taste and also wanted more Kentucky influence. Bold Kentucky satisfied me a lot more on both fronts and might be worth a try for you

About half of what I order is being re-ordered and the rest is leaf (blends or single-leaf) I haven't tried but have strong reason to believe I will like. The re-orders are often something I haven't had on hand for some time.

Not sure, I though the smokiness would be more akin to Skiff Mixture, something struck me as more like a North Carolina bbq joint. Didn’t hate it but thought I’d like it more considering how liked it is around the forum.

You can have all the Bibimbap if you come here to South Korea. Also, each province/region has their own variation. The best one I had was in Muju. Had a wonderful mushroom mixture and the sesame oil they put on it was divine. Next to the restaurant I had it was Rajetongmun Gate, the historic border of the Silla and Baekje Kingdoms. Apparently alot of people died trying to get in/out of here. Alot of tobacco was probably shipped through here too.

I cannot cellar enough cordon bleu without running into another cordon bleu that I must cellar for fear of ever running out either as well.

While I like Chicken Cordon Bleu, I'm already off-topic here. I can't order it or eat the stuff, ever since my body chemistry changed to the point where I have become allergic to cheese. Since then, I've only once ever had my favorite, lasagna (As Garfield states: Nature's most perfect food!) my wife made with an assortment of fake cheeses -- which made it ridiculously expensive.

I understand that in South Korea, there are millions of Kimchee pots buried in the ground.

Chicken cordon bleu is oddly hard to find at restaurants these days, when I was growing up it was often on the menu at places serving “continental cuisine”. I make it at home occasionally but eat Bibimbap more frequently.

It’s got me wondering what a Korean pipe blend would be like??? Wait, if it would be anything like the cigs........never mind! The food is awesome as hell though;)
