Vegas Baby!!!
I'm not so easily stampeded
Isn't that the point? I didn't say I'm marching down the street with my flag and firearm. I merely stated that the "knock" on the door is not being answered.
But I'm smart enough to know that knock is a long way away.

Do Yetis smoke? I've often wondered.
Ash is probably right, which is a pity, because if one were to appear before 100 posts we could pose the question....

There are bans currently in place on various "substances" that work very well if you understand what the purposes of such bans are.
Such as:
The creation of black market activities with the inevitable associated violence which enables great expansion of police powers that would be unacceptable to the public otherwise (problem/reaction/solution).
Lots of cash flowing through the banking system and Wall Street that would be drastically diminished without a thriving black market.
Covert funding of certain types of military/intelligence operations.
Etc.

And...there we are.
That said, I'm not really sure tobacco's banning would likely function as above (brian64's post). Not sure why I say that, but intuition suggests it isn't the case.

Just to keep the thread counting towards 100....
Ironically I was in Hawaii a couple months ago, and smoked my pipes everywhere but inside. (Honolulu, even)

Covert military operation funding would explain the prices and availability of Stonehaven and Penzance ....
Just saying. Explains a lot, actually. Hmmm.

I engage in "pushing back" when I feel the need to do so, but I do so directly whether it is taking on the IRS or my mother's prescription provider, my own medical insurance, a thieving producer, and any of a number of bullies and weasels that I've had to contend with over the years. Push back, but do so in a manner that can make a difference.
In the case of tobacco use, I think the trend is going to continue until it becomes so marginalized that tobacco use isn't even a blip on the screen.
Got an issue with the proposed legislation in Hawai'i then let the legislators know it. Does anyone really think they know, much less care, what people say on a pipe forum?

At which point it will become no longer profitable to tax it, but to ban it in order for the gov't to make money from fines and prosecution (and provide the head honchos with free tobacco to smoke in their private parties, or do you really thing all that gets confiscated is gonna be destroyed?)

The "use" of a given substance need not be prohibited. Just the selling, purchasing or growing of it...which is already being done "by a thousand cuts" as is always stated. So one could argue that is a de-facto ban.
EDIT: or maybe they'll just genetically modify it out of existence. Or at least the nic content. Better cellar those seeds!

Cigarettes have been banned in numerous states in the past. However, the laws never lasted.
What States? When?

IMO your employer or insurance provider will ban or price you out before there will be a ban. The company my company is contracted to is nicotine free as a condition of employment and they test. 8O
