That one blew my mind. I've gotten Punto de Oros, Capris, and others for less than $50.I love a good bidding war but only when I'm not bidding.
Even unsmoked the Capris rarely reach $100. I'm guessing new guys. But it's near mint!!!
Capris are one of those dime a dozen lines unlike the similar Corallo di Mare. I had Capris from five different lines and none were more than $50.I don’t bid but I’ve never got caught out in some stupid snipes I’ve programmed over the years. I don’t know what this piece finished at but I be going to sleep with a warm glow for only $235.50 for a must have pipe.
I had a 9004 capri with one of those stems. I'm still betting on new buyers.I suspect the main attraction was the pairing of the Capri stummel and the green pearl stem that you would normally see on an Estella pipe—this combo doesn’t turn up with great frequency (I have a Capri 131 with this configuration). That said, the sale price seems a bit out of whack, but who am I to say? I’ve been guilty of paying more than most people would deem reasonable for things I really wanted.
Sanity is wasted on the sane.As a former collector of the Savinelli 904 shape and having over 50 of them from different lines, this pipe was seriously barely worth $70. Looks like ego and pride ruled the floor. I'm guessing some of the bidders assumed it was a Corallo di Mare.

USWas it sold from Japan ? I'm thinking of instructing my heirs to sell my pipes from Japan so they can get more money ...![]()
I was thinking the same thing. The bidders really know they want that pipe and market value be damned. Sometimes a particular pipe just sings to you and you don't care about the price. And that's coming from a guy who has on many occasions been wowed by a pipe and then looked at the price tag and thought Dunhills are made out of sour grapes.I suspect the main attraction was the pairing of the Capri stummel and the green pearl stem that you would normally see on an Estella pipe—this combo doesn’t turn up with great frequency (I have a Capri 131 with this configuration).
