Right now it is obscenely brutal out there. The wind is the worst factor, walk a mile into it (as I have just done, four actually) and you will understand the concept of sandblasting.
The forecast called for snow and some wind later tonight. I set off for a walk on the local rails-to-trails bike path at about two o'clock. The usual bring a pipe, two miles to the next road and two miles back. A nice walk most days, even in winter with no wind usually and the sun shining. Most days some deer and turkeys to see and now & then even a fox or maybe a black bear. Lots of other regular folks always out too to say hi to and greet their dogs.
Not today. The weather today came straight out of the bowels of hell. Started the walk with clear skies. Got about a mile down and noticed the wind suddenly -abruptly- kick right up behind me. Within minutes it was impossible to see 100 yards back or ahead. I made it to the road crossing and decided to "go around the block" instead of reversing straight back which would be right into the wind that was now humming something fierce and knocking the trees together. I began on a clear asphalt path. Before I even got to the road crossing there was accumulation, and it kept coming. Taking the route north and keeping the wind quartering behind me it just kept getting worse by the minute. I have seen a lot of storms in a lifetime on the great lakes but this one is vying for a trophy. This region is c-c-cold right now, Toronto -22, Erie -25, Buffalo -14, Rochester -13. That does not include windchills. The windchill here now is -35 *F. That's cold enough to make Michelle Obama feel human emotions.
There has been a blizzard warning issued for the region, the first in 20 years since 1993. Ya, it's rough outside right now.
