My collection consists of a variety of shapes - billiards, bulldogs, a Dublin, a Zulu and Rhodesian. Most are rusticated bent - either full, 3/4th or a slight bend. My only straight pipes are 2 bulldogs. Does that mean I need a classic straight billiard or Dublin (or both) to round out my collection??
Both of course! You might not even be a pipe smoker without a straight billiard. :ROFLMAO:

I like every shape but it seems that I've always gone for straight billiards and half bent brandy shapes. I've recently started with Hawkbills and they feel so perfect and balanced for me that I think I might be starting on a new path.

classics with slight embellishments. Maybe an army mount or a little ring between the briar and the stem. I sometimes like odd shapes but in general I'am drawn to classic shapes. Not really into rustication or sandblasts. I like the grain too much. I also have always preferred the 3/4 bent pipes.

I'll ditto on the weight and length parameters. I love some fine grain but tend to lean more toward the blasts, likely due to clenching and klutzing around. Love the feel and visuals of a good blast.
Nothing beats a great blast with lots of natural character. Stacks of rings are a real head turner.

Ive noticed more recently some makers doing the “rusticated ring grain” thing where they cut out the rough shape of ring grain and then blast it. I’m not a fan of that look.

I think I've seen that in some Butz-Choquin pipes and I would agree. It doesn't quite look organic enough, like that faux brick tile that was used in the backsplash of a kitchen I once had.

Almost all of my collection is standard shapes like Billiards, Dublins, Aple's, Brandy's, Rhodesian,Bulldog and Lovats. I have never been much of a fan of free hands or fish type shape. I refer a nice ring grain blast over the other surfaces along with Ebonite hand made stems made from high quality German Ebonite. I have a few full bents but mostly own straight,1/4 and 1/8 bents.
