Random story, I may have relayed this somewhere before - anyhow, I did a pickup gig with some Nashville guys a billion years ago when I lived there ...we drove out into the actual middle of nowhere to a pretty nice bar and played a fun, yet uneventful gig until the end of the night when someone shouted the obligatory "FREEBIRD!" for the encore...

I was playing bass on this gig - I shit you not, both guitar players knew the entire dual solo section note for note ...I played through the chord changes and watched in awe as these dudes ripped the shit outta that section. To be honest, that song is not hard to improvise over, especially with all the standard pentatonic scale language, really basic stuff ...but for two dudes to know that whole section cold from memory, as it was recorded, on a pick up gig was a unique treat to see. This also sums up most of what I miss from living in Nashville lol

Sweet Home Alabama is pretty overplayed down here. Yeah I like the song and all, but just go out in public and you'll hear it twice.

Also the University of Alabama has hijacked the song... Every asshole who roots for Alabama adds "roll tide roll" into the chorus. Being an Auburn fan, that turns me off.

They've also hijacked "Dixieland Delight" by Alabama... That one's real classy haha. I won't post it here, but their version can be found.

They're animals.
This animal's (me) favorite Skynard song is "Mr. Banker"

Roll Tide!

Off the top of my head, Simple Man, Ballad of Curtis Low(pretty sure I spelled that incorrectly), Tuesday’s Gone. I know I’m forgetting a few.

On a separate note, this Mom’s basement dwelling full grown adult man child I work with asked me if I liked Led Zeppelin or Lynyrd Skynyrd better, I replied that’s apples to oranges but I’ll take Skynyrd. Less caterwauling. He disagreed and probably went home and listened to Zeppelin on his Mom’s record player.
Probably blasting “Coda”, lol.

I've always liked the intro and tune of "Sweet Home Alabama"

That is my wife’s ringtone on her phone. She gets some “turn it up” responses when out and about. 😁

I was discussing this thread with my wife this evening. She told me about a time she was using the restroom at Costco and her phone rang with the Sweet Home Alabama intro ring tone. She said two women in adjacent stalls simultaneously yelled “Turn It Up”. 😁😂🤣

Being the absolute #1 rock and roll band of all time, bar none.....I cannot pick a favorite song. Nor am I just going to list all of their songs in this thread.
Second only to Ozzy, Lynryd Skynyrd is my second most seen band live. Ive seen every iteration of the band from the late 80s when they got back together, until Gary died a few years ago. Once Gary Rossington died, Skynyrd was gone for me. As far as I know they are completely done touring. But I wouldn't doubt that Johnny Van Zant has something brewing.
Im not sure if Dale Krantz is doing anything now, but she was there right after the plane crash to help keep them together. So she could almost be an original member. If you consider The Rossington Collins Band sorta Lynryd Skynyrd. :)

I really like Gimme Back My bullets, partially cause there’s a kickass cover of it that Weedeater did. Also love the Ballad of Curtis Loew.
God I saw Weedeater do it on the tour right after God Luck, Good Speed came out. Sooo heavy. When they played Southern Cross I about had an out of body experience.

I’ll post that when someone starts a “Favorite CSN (&Y) Songs” thread.
