As for the Chacom pipe, looks like a winner.?

I would recommend buying a handful of 1 oz samples of bulk tobacco. Try a bunch of different syles/types/etc. That will give you an idea of what family of tobacco you like (Virginias, English Blends, Virginia-Perique belnds, aromatics, etc.)
Very wise - I will definitely give it a go. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

Sorry can't recommend anything as I don't know what's available to you. I smoke mostly English/Balkan blends.

Perhaps dry the tobacco a bit more, and, yes, remove the metal bit.
Thanks - metal piece removed and tobacco is now drying. Thanks for the tips - I'm keen to try whatever is out there so I'll have a look at the English and Balkan options.

If you’re looking in that direction, Balkan Supreme is hard to beat in my opinion, sold under the Arango and Peter Stokkebye names. Same tobacco, and sold as bulk.

Greetings from Ontario and welcome to the forums!

While I haven’t had an experience with a Chacom branded pipe, I do own a sub-brand (The French Pipe) made by Chacom in St. Claude, France. It was not an expensive pipe but I am very happy with its quality and how it smokes. As suggested by fellow forum members Chacom is a reputable brand and is a good starting point for a beginner, as well as a good addition to the collection of a seasoned pipe smoker.

Thanks, I'll definitely bear in mind! The one I have now is kind of aromatic I suppose. Hard to keep lit. Do you keep the metal insert (evaporator?) as part of it or do you recommend removing it? Apology for the dumb questions.
There are no dumb questions here! Believe me I know. Anyway welcome from The Great State of TEXAS
