The best comedy, to me, looks sort of effortless, as if it just occurred to the comic, or happened to him or her. Most often it doesn't require a lot of sex jokes or embarrassment on the part of the audience.

I've been watching comics on TV since the 50's.
I've seen comic movies and read comic books.
What you find humorous may depend upon your ability to experience empathy, humility, self deprecation, criticism, and maybe sometimes a touch of sadism.
I've read most every word in this thread, and found mention of almost every comic who ever performed and found one (it came to mind) omission. I'm sure there are several more.
Jerry Lewis.

Oh, Lewis has been mentioned at length.

And now Benny Hill. For a short time I was fascinated with his shows. That's when they were live, or at least new—so many years ago. A year ago I ran across some clips, and fascination turned to meh or worse.
