@anotherbob you are the optimist. When I see a company giving away product at shows, I see a company trying to drum up business... by buying it.
When I see a company diversify into retail and providing components for other companies, I see a company grasping for something to keep them afloat.
When I see a company being bought I see who the bitch is in that relationship.
Sure, maybe MacBaren saw some value in them, but look at MacBaren now.

Hey, I'm just calling it like I see it.

Sutliff hasn't been an independent company since the late 1960's and that was another case of an owner retiring out and selling the company. They were owned by Altadis, a branch of Imperial Tobacco when they were bought by Mac Baren, and that had to do with a change in Imperial's corporate planning. Sutliff didn't fit into their plans. So they must have had some value or Mac baren wouldn't have bought them.
Sure but look at Sutliff and Mac Baren now. I'm not saying that the never had value, nor that "no one likes them" nor am I saying that they are awful, I am just saying to Bob here that they are obviously not the gold mine he was saying they were.

For codgers like my dad, C&D and Germains, etc blends will never be something they enjoy. He eats at Golden Corral and would never darken the door of a Ruth's Chris or a Morton's. But he's happy and for someone on a fixed income, successfully saved up enough to own his lake home on Table Rock Lake, along with two boats, a motorcycle, and two cars with over a pound of gold in his safe.

Does the inside of all Ruth Chris’s look like something from the set of Knott’s Landing?

I'll only be going as far as my closet to seek them though.
Did you ever try voodoo queen? That was the only time I got to try the mocha strips and I was impressed 👌🏼

When the Dunhill brand was transitioning, Three Year Matured was the last to sell out. SPC put them on sale back in 2019 for $6/tin. I may or may not have broke the bank at that time.

How does the charatan take on this blend stand up to the Dunhill one?

@Ahi Ka Voodoo Queen is great! A very satisfying smoke. I took a chance and ordered a full pound (was the only way i could order it at the time) and happy to have it. I won't be bothered if they drop this one, but .. to my earlier point, I bought it because FOMO. It was something else to try.

Definitely the collector/seasonal stuff like Old Boss, Silver Quarter, Maple Shadows, and Cringle Flake. I think I will actually miss the Hearth and Home stuff more. Russ was doing great bulk stuff (Anniversary Cake, 10 to Midnight come to mind quick) and the H&H tins like White Knight/Black House are top notch. Russ also resurrected Bengal Slices, so that may be going away, too. The Sutliff bulk Balkan S Original is basically White Knight so maybe a pound of that may be in order.

Almost certain it will somehow live on but Mississippi River SR has a real unique tang to its Virginias that I'm not sure future productions will be able to replicate.

Advertising is the same thing only slightly more abstract. Advertising is paying lots of money to buy attention. Giving away product in a targeted way is the same thing. Probably cost them less then buying inches of screen on websites has.
When I see a company diversify into retail and providing components for other companies, I see a company grasping for something to keep them afloat.
Again why do you see that? It could be that. A lot of companies do this and we just aren't nerdy enough on those products to notice.
When I see a company being bought I see who the bitch is in that relationship.
Generally yes. Not always though.
