The Gawith rep would argue with members too about a lot of the nuances and then months later revealed she didn't even smoke pipes :ROFLMAO:
I can understand your point, but as they’re a relatively small, family ran business I’m just glad that they continue producing what they do.

MacBaren was a much larger corporation, and we all saw what happened when the family at the helm said “enough with this bullshit, we’ll take the money and run”.

Kudos to Gawith for continuing to produce and keep their pipe tobacco relevant in what’s got to be a challenging market (to put it lightly).

I just wish I could afford to buy at fraction of their product that the hoarders that purchase much but smoke little seem to buy.

Fair enough. Irony here is that I am a big Gawith fan.

That particular discussion was about the lack of "Lakeland sauce" post merger. I agree taste is subject but when a group of longtime customers (who have samples from every year and directly compared them) all made the same observations it is what it is.

Nothing wrong with anything you said. It seems to me that the Gawith rep has held their own in these discussions, and I'm sure they appreciate feedback.

Half of my tobacco is SG or G&H. I enjoy talking about it and I'm happy that I don't have to be careful about giving honest opinions in a forum for discussing pipes and tobacco.

Like many, never 5 lbs BUT the blends I have bought in bulk, over a pound are, EMP, LNF, MacBaren Navy Flake, McC 2015, 27, & 24. All have improved over the years and I don't regret any of these purchases. Now adays, I don't buy much, I mostly trade. That's the beauty of having an ample stash!

oops....forgot, Bob's Chocolate Flake, I think I now have a pound and a half!

Penzance. Never could buy five pounds, but now can't get it at all.
Compton's. Never could buy five pounds, but now can't get it at all.
Germain's Special Latakia Flake. Never could buy five pounds, but now can't get it at all.
Wait a minute...I just realized I'm the common denominator here. Oh-oh..... :(

I've been smoking a pipe for a little over a year now. I have yet to buy a second tin of anything.

This is partly because I want to try everything once before I smoke a second tin of anything, but also because I have yet to have my socks knocked off by anything AMAZING!

I get it that a big part of this might just be me developing my palate. I'm fine with that.

But I have yet to find something that could become an "everyday smoke" or the tin that will cause me to go buy five pounds more of it. Usually I enjoy the first several bowls of a new tobacco, but by the time I get through the 2oz tin, I'm read to be done with it and move on.

What about you? What was the first tin that caused you to go buy five pounds? (Or at least, as many tins of the tobacco that you could afford in one go).
Blending perique, it makes any blend better, more flavorful. I smoke it straight as well, just love the stuff and can't get enough.

Agree. "Honest opinions" thoughtfully shared are the primary reason I look forward to comments & responses.

Mine was this year. I’ve bought 1-2 pounds of McClelland 2000 FMC, Stonehaven, Penzance, And So To Bed. But remembering the closure of McClelland and me still kicking myself for not grabbing more before they were done, I stocked up on this STG mess.

I bought 25 pounds of Newminster 400, 7 pounds of 507c, 2 pounds of Rum Raisin and enough stock to make 8 pounds of Hobbits Weed. Mulling over doing one more order….

I used to buy Lane Limited's 1-Q by the pound, still have a large sealed jar of the stuff that's been aging for about 5 years. Now, I can't stand the stuff. lol
That's funny you say that. My Dad smokes Lane 1-Q exclusively, and I absolutely love the aroma when he smokes it. But, I really don't enjoy smoking it myself. Huge difference between the second hand aroma, and the personal experience!

To the OP, I'm like you, I try new stuff all the time. Hardly purchased more than 2 tins of anything, really. Too many options! But this forum is fantastic for learning about new stuff to try. Cheers!

I have not found that tobacco yet but searching. I have found 5-6 that I have bought 5+ tins, or half pound, but majority of my limited tobacco fund keeps going back into TAD and trying new ones.

Perique is getting hard to find. Luckily I have several pounds cellared. The last processed perique I got was from pipe and cigars. com but I notice they no longer have any I can order. I have enough to last me a while so hopefully I will be able to get more later when they have another supplier. What I got was Sutliff and it was good.
