Ha, I started off w/Captain Black White/Original. I later discovered that Lane RLP-6 was very similar, so I purchased a couple pounds. That was a long time ago, and while my taste has changed, I still have some of it jarred for old times’ sake.

I went nuts on Windjammer when it came out. I've probably got 5 lbs of it stashed, most of it from the original release. I haven't smoked it in a while, so im sure I'll Crack a jar and remember why I bought so much in the near future. I also went pretty deep with HH Burley Flake. Not deep enough, apparently.

I've not been in a position to buy 5 lb. at a time, but tobaccos that I've loved and bought large (for me) quantities of at a time include Astley's No. 44, HH Pure VA, Ennerdale, Peretti Royal Blend, Boswell's Northwoods, and Milan Sunset Rum.

My tastes have adjusted over the years, and so although I still appreciate all of these, not all of them are ones that I'd still stock up on much.

If I were going to stockpile right now, the ones I'd focus on might be (alongside a couple of other possibilities):
*F&T Vintage
*SG Best Brown
*Peretti Royal Blend

Sir Walter Raleigh (regular). Glad I did because the new (STG) stuff is unsmokeable.
Couldn't agree more....VINEGAR!!!!...picked up 2 of the new 7oz tins last fall....opened one a few weeks ago...put my nose to the tobacco and recoiled, eyes widened , "What the hell is.....". Took a second sniff...VINEGAR. Laid it out on a cookie sheet to air out...waited till the next morning and loaded up a pipe....First draw...Vinegar, chemicals...bent over the cookie sheet...still smelled like vinegar....Maybe, it's a bad batch....Started looking at tobacco reviews on line and all were experiencing the same thing from SWR Regular purchased during the fall of 2024. I have smoked this for over 55 years...it is my go to blend...What have they done?...What fools these mortals be.

I sent STG a formal complaint and got a canned response. Leonard W. from STG was on here earlier and said he was aware of the complaints and had referred it to their QC department or whatever. That was months ago. Apparently they don’t know their noses from their behinds or just don’t give a damn. It isn’t that hard to understand SWR has changed CONSIDERABLY and is nothing like the former production.

The Gawith rep would argue with members too about a lot of the nuances and then months later revealed she didn't even smoke pipes :ROFLMAO:

The tobaccos I'm hooked on right now is Larry's blend. And as of recently obsidian 6×60s but I don't think I would want to smoke 5lbs of anything that isn't meat. If we are talking continuously I think id get tired of it after a pound and a half.

I have been smoking a pipe since the 1980's, but didn't participate in pipe forums until 2020. I joined a forum just before a big Sam Gawith drop where Kendal Plug showed up. Up until that point I had been a Lakeland smoker, so a good straight VA was a pretty amazing thing to me. I bought all of it I could get hold of. Shortly after that I discovered Best Brown, Full VA, Capstan Blue, etc., etc., and my love for Kendal Plug faded. I still have most of what I bought five years ago.

But thanks for reminding me. I'll go fish out a plug and see what five years has done to it.

I was exactly the same for about three years, I wanted to try everything. Smoked some pretty disappointing stuff, some ok stuff, some great stuff. It’s taken a while but I now know the varieties I enjoy the most and am only just beginning to hone in on the tins I really like. I’m down to a rotation of about 4 that hit the spot, but foolishly bought multiple of things I don’t want to smoke. So, I am now left with a cellar of stuff I don’t want! Don’t make my mistake - keep it to one tin at a time, keep notes/scores and then revisit your top scorers later. All part of the fun though.

I almost forgot. When I placed my first order for Kendal Plug, I also ordered a bunch of small bags of various S.G./G&H ropes, etc. I particularly liked black Irish X rope, and Black Twist Sliced. I bought 3-5 pounds of those, then quickly realized that I didn't have the tolerance for smoking that much of it. I've been giving it away as 'extras' in trades ever since. Maybe I should mix it with Kendal Plug and see what happens.

I'd never smoke five pounds of anything. I did buy one pound bags of Match Victorian and the two Match Balkans. Might stock up on a bit more H&H Classic Burley Kake, too. That said, over the years, I'm sure I've smoked five pounds of a couple blends (Elizabethan for sure)...

Good day all! Yesterday was spent with Peterson Flake in a big-bowled Upshall P Dublin with pencil shank and eighth-bent tapered stem. Started today with Reiner Sweet Mystery in the sacrificial Charatan birdseye Poker with saddle stem.

I first bulk bought and stored McClelland, like a few other posters here. Now I have some 500g of Radford's Mixture which I managed to bulk buy just before it was discontinued in 2023. I'm by no means an aromatic enjoyer, but I did like Radford's Mixture - it has a topping that I can only describe as Marzipan, and I do like Marzipan. Since then I keep a few others in reserve.

5lb at a go: PS Bullseye, Navy, and Twist; Rimboche SJ and AB; SPC Potlatch; and 40 tins of OGS.

There are other blends I have more than 5lb of, but didn't purchase in one go. SOTE is one.
