Blends that I felt compelled to cellar over the past 35 years:
1990's-early 2000's version of Escudo
Best Brown Flake
Edgeworth Slices
Wilke Rum Cake and Vermont Maple cavendish
Uhle's 00
Some of the Esoterica Blends (but not nearly enough!),
HH Old Dark Fired - an absolute masterpiece IMHO. Was very sad to see it go, although I'm hearing rumors that it will remain in production with STG.
Quiet Nights
C&D Anthology 2023 - like QN without the latakia
Marlin Flake
And a some of the McClelland blends.

How, oh how, I wish I would have cellared more McClelland's Dark star and Blackwoods flake. Even though I would perodically stock up, I would always inevitably tear through my supply. Didn't hear about the closure until it was far too late...

I never had such a thing. I can tell you what the first blend was that I bought a canister of, as oppose to a pouch, back in the late 1960s, when I was a new pipe smoker, and a college student on a limited budget. It was Troost Special Cavendish.
Do you still have regrets?

About what? I bought that canister of Troost. I smoked a a fair amount of that stuff,in days gone by, before I wandered into Campbell's in East Lansing.
Ah, for some reason I thought it had a poor rep - quite the opposite, as it turns out! Why only the Dutch are seen as fit customers nowadays, anyone's guess.

I bought five pounds PS Luxury Flake, five pounds of PS Bullseye Flake, five pounds of Newminster 400 Superior Navy Flake and 1 pound (16 ounces) of Newminster 403 Superior Round Slices all at once.

It came in a giant heavy box. The funny thing was whoever packed the order figured out the five pounds PS Luxury blocks of flake easy enough.

The Newminster 403 that I only ordered 1 pound (16 oz) of was read by the picker as 16 pounds.

So I received 31 pounds in the mail. I sent back the 15 excess pounds of 403 and I had to convince Pipes and Cigars they made a mistake. They only charged me for one pound, but couldn’t figure out how they send me 16 pounds. Lol.

The first blend I bought in any large quantity was when I picked up 3 pounds of Sutliff 507C Virginia Slices this past winter, since I smoked a fair bit of 507C last summer and remembered enjoying it, but since then my tastes have drifted away from bright citrusy Virginias and more towards dark fired blends (Kendal Dark, Dark Flake, 1792 Flake, Coniston Cut Plug, Irish Flake, etc) so I think at some point I may end up selling or trading the 3 pounds of Sutliff 507C I've got jarred up.

I'm just a few years in and I don't smoke often. The first tobacco I thought I'd better get a pound of was Mixture 79. I suspect the next will be PS LNF, as it improves so much with cellaring, or Coniston Cut Plug, my current favorite. 5 pounds seems like A LOT of one tobacco to have on hand, but...I understand the rationale(s).

My first major purchase was 3 Oaks Syrian. I am a huge fan of Syrian Latakia, and this was after GL Pease lost his warehouse full. I was determined to have it around always. So over the course of that 1st year after introduction, I put away 100 tins.

Other big purchases include 30 tins of Capstan blue before the big price increase and around 5 lbs of Sutliff RC-515 before they went under.
