I can't afford to cellar. Everything I buy is to smoke now, and that costs enough. If I could afford to stockpile my pleasures for enjoyment at some indeterminate future date, it would be a toss-up whether it would be pipe tobacco or motorbikes.

I only cellar Virginia Flakes and VA/PER flakes or rounds. I only cellar ones that I like fresh, or ones that I can tell by tasting will most likely improve with age.
I worked for the fellow in the 1980s who smoked Dunhill light flake, but only after it had two or three years of age on it. I tried Dunhill light flake and did not care for it very much, but smoke some of his aged light flake and found it was much better than the fresh Dunhill light flake, that's when I became a fan of aging tinned tobaccos.

I don't smoke aromatics, latakia or oriental mixtures simply because I do not like them. I have smoked some aged English blends that were actually pretty good. It seems that Latakia does age fairly well in some mixtures, but I would probably only smoke one or two bowls per year, so it hardly seems worth the effort for me to cellar an English mixture.

I buy to stock up, to cellar for future availability and when prices are good on my preferred blend styles.
According to some here, I'm screwed!!! Most of my cellar consists of English and Scottish!
Have to admit, a nice Penzance or Nightcap tin with some 5-10 years on it that has been stored properly is pretty darn tasty! IMNSHO, quality lat blends do age just fine.

I think I’m with a few on this one. I think a mixture should be good when you get it. If I have anything in jars it’s for storage only.
I know that many GLP blends are better with age, but I don’t really understand the reasoning. I do have some jars that are rather old. If I happen to buy 8oz I store it in a jar.

At this point I have so much stored up that everything I open is aged and I honestly have too much. But for me, I don’t catch a lot of difference in English varieties as they age. Maybe mellower in the Lat department?

To my (perhaps unsophisticated) palate English don’t seem to change as much, so I’m perfectly fine opening a brand new tin on the English side of things and loading the pipe whereas I would normally cellar a VA, VaPer, etc for a good while.

I pretty much just smoke aromatics, Burley blends, and Lakelands; none of which seem to improve with age beyond developing their aromas and flavors a little more after cracking open a fresh tin and giving them a couple weeks to breathe in a Ball jar. For that reason I don't cellar more than 1 or 2 tins of my favorite blends, so they'll still be fresh and flavorful when I get around to smoking them. If my tastes ever change and I take a liking to Virginias I might consider cellaring those more deeply, but as it stands all the blends I enjoy the most don't really benefit from aging so cellaring isn't something I'm too concerned about.

They say aromatics because they lose flavor. But some are so wet they're fine in my opinion. I've had a jar of Molto Dolce for a couple of years that's still wet and you can smell it a mile away. Who knows how wet or moldy it'll be in 10 years. But its not just about age, its also about keeping a blend you love that they might discontinue.

Curious if there's any tobaccos that just are better straight out of the tin, without any age on them.

I've seen enough comments on certain tobaccos not being as good with age as others, it got me wondering what's best smoked right away.
Only age things you like but you wish were smoother. Age just mellows stuff out, but if you don't like it to begin with you most likey still won't.

My purchasing outpaces my smoking, so a stock of tins and mylar-sealed bulk just naturally piles up. I buy stuff I want when it's priced well or when it becomes available.

No point in cellaring aromatics, as by most accounts, they lose more than they gain over time. I have noticed that older tins of aromatics aren't as flavorful as new ones. Fortunately for me, I don't really like most strongly flavored aros.

Ive only recently been able to get decent tobacco easily. While I can I will build my stash. Its not intentional cellaring but a bit of hoarding. It will lead to some getting older since Im not a heavy smoker. Im getting too old to cellar intentionally and I know my tobacco interests will vary over time. I tend to get into things and then shift attention. So I buy what I like today. If it gets better sitting in the closet...well cool

I cellar primarily as a hedge against unavailability in the future, with aging as an ancillary benefit.

I was an instant fan of GLP Windjammer when it first came out, and Ive stocked up considerably since then. I really like the punch it has from a fresh tin, and I suspect aging will dim that considerably (though I do think it will age very well despite that anticipated change). So Windjammer will probably be something I smoke from fresh tins as long as I can get them easily.

I don't cellar GH nor anything bulk. I have very little C&D and avoid keeping those for very long. Also have very few aromatics.

Ain’t nothing I don’t cellar. Mainly cuz I’m in my prime earning years. I see how my grandparents live leaner on social security so I reckon I will too. I sure don’t want to be spending on things that are not food and shelter if I make it to that age. Plus it seems like I’m setting myself up for retirement entertainment at a good price.
