One day I’d still like to get one! Certain iterations of them are awesome looking pipes. For barely much more money I just scored a near mint Taylor-era Sovereign. With free shipping from a domestic seller... I couldn’t say no.

How’s this for serendipity. The Ashton I just got in place of the XL90 was listed as not having a date code (not uncommon for certain era Ashton’s, I believe). I struck up a conversation with the seller via email, and he said as he was packing it he inspected it closer, and there is indeed a date code. “9”, to be precise. Which means the pipe was made by Bill Taylor in 1989... my birth year! I accidentally stumbled onto a birth year pipe without even knowing it. Happy days ?
