If a pipe were un-smokable for some reason, I might not try to recycle it. Usually, it comes down to a pipe not fitting in the scheme of the rotation, and maybe not suiting my particular taste in draw, weight, finish, etc. Or being duplicative of a pipe or pipes that do the same thing better. To throw a good pipe away doesn't seem practical when I can turn it into payment for a pipe I prefer. I don't do this often, and over time, it becomes more difficult as the collection comes to be more gifts, old favorites, personal treasures, and so on. My Yello-Bole isn't any kind of fine pipe, but it is a good little briar, clencher, and a nifty flake smoker.
