Tom Waits: Soul Of A Man
Tom Waits: John The Revelator
Listening to an album that took years to arrive, but was damned well worth the time. I signed up for the Kickstarter somewhere between 2010 and 2012, album wasn't completed and shipped until this summer.
A group of musicians covered a selection of songs by Blind Willie Johnson. Each musician recorded a different track, though Tom Waits (thankfully) contributed two stripped down beauties. The Soul Of A Man was turned into a fast-tempo delta-church-fair song, while John The Revelator became a fearsome hammer-and-ghost ballad. Magnificent.
I'm not a religious man, but there's something special living in these songs.
