I want to find the couple tobaccos of each category I love and forget the rest. whether English or VaPer or Burley, etc. I have TDS and want to try them all but cant. Then if you find it something happens like with McClellan or Mac Baren and you start over.

I smoke the occasional cigar.. most often in the warmer months.
I don't seek out nasal snuff, but if I chance upon a tin, I'll pick one up and use it while it lasts. I got a tin of McChrystals Sunset at Muletown and I've been enjoying it since.

What kind of pipe.. artisan, factory, or combination-
Ive gone through phases over the years where I prefer estates (typically French/British shape chart standards), and then I'll prefer artisans- often having a commission piece in the works constantly.


Size of your pipe collection?-
My collection stays in the 20-25 pipe range most frequently. That's actually grown a bit from the 12-15 range I once kept.
When I get to the number I feel is my limit, I'll sell or trade a couple off in order to acquire a new one.


Do you smoke your pipe indoors, outside or combination of both? -
At home, it's outside unfortunately.
I take advantage of being able to smoke indoors when possible- usually at a friends house or a local lounge.

How often do you smoke your pipe? - During the winter, once every week to two weeks. During the summer, 3-4 times a week on average. Currently fighting acid reflux (coming off of my meds I have been on for no reason for 20 years), so haven't had an opportunity to smoke for about 3 weeks.

Favorite place or setting for a good pipe smoke? - Out back on the porch on a cool summer night with the fire pit on, and no bugs at all. Wife is optional

4 total. A cheap Chinese basket pipe, MM CG, an adorable bent Nording that gurgles like a mountain stream, and my now beloved 2-week-old Brigham Klondike Canadian. I'll be buying another knockaround Brigham soon to travel with--I'm totally sold on the system. They are amazing pipes for the money.

Outdoors only. Family would not accept anything else, and the weather here in New Orleans permits it with minimal fuss.

What kind of pipe.. artisan, factory, or combination- I don't have a preference, but honestly, I have not purchased an artisan pipe yet, although I have smoked one.


Size of your pipe collection? - I have a very small collection of 8 pipes. I have a Meerschaum, an ebony wood, and several briar pipes.

Do you smoke your pipe indoors, outside or combination of both? - I can smoke in my basement office, but I prefer to smoke outside. I also am not a fan of smoking in the car. Growing up with chain-smoking parents, I don't like being in enclosed spaces saturated with smoke. That being said, cigarette smoke is worse than any other, so maybe I will come around. I also enjoy smoking in a cigar/pipe club on occasion.

Do you smoke your pipe in public - Yes, although I don't go out of my way to do so.

Challenges, you face smoking a pipe? i.e. tongue bite, etc. - I am still trying to smoke slower. Retrohaling still irritates my nose quite a bit, but that is getting better. My biggest challenge is being able to distinguish flavor notes and profiles from different tobaccos. I have the same problem with foods. I know what I like and what I don't like, but I struggle to identify specific flavors and ingredients.

I really enjoy collecting And restoring in expensive pipes That I find in thrift shops in antique stores. I have found some great pipes and smoke most of them

Well, I have restored well over 1000 pipes but I keep about 200 for my own use. Those include 15 Artisan pipes and the rest. I have gathered from various sources over the years and are relatively inexpensive.

I do smoke my pipe indoors and my family really never mentions it but if I had my choice, I would always be outside with a good pipe

Absolutely! Of course, I try to be considerate of others around me and always follow the law, but I don't hesitate to light a pipe in public

When I was working, I would usually smoke 2 to 3 bowls a day, more on weekends. Now that I'm retired I average 6 to 10 bowls a day.





Favorite place or setting for a good pipe smoke? -
Around a campfire either with my family or with other pipe, smoking buddies. I also like to sit by a fire and read a good book while smoking my pipe.

You're describing the Delayed Gratification Technique, or DGT. Lots of folks on this forum love it, but I prefer to pack and smoke right away. That may change the longer I smoke but for right now, it works for me.
