Years smoking, a pipe- 13
Do you combine your pipe smoking with other forms of tobacco consumption? Cigars, snuff, etc. if so, which form of consumption do you lean to - Occasional cigar (rare); occasional nasal snuf, daily homemade snus, two cigarettes per day Mon-Thurs, maybe a few packs if day fishing trip; vape.
What kind of pipe.. artisan, factory, or combination- I prefer my older, reliable pipes like the Sav 623 and Pete 268, though I buy and try newer pipes, I always reach for this Sav most of all.
Size of your pipe collection?- 8-10
Do you smoke your pipe indoors, outside or combination of both? - Both. I mostly smoke in bed, which is where I spend most of my time.
Do you smoke your pipe in public- I take it to my local live bar when I play gigs.
How often do you smoke your pipe? - Can go months without smoking it depending how I feel. Other times I will smoke a few bowls in a day. Pipe smoking for me depends entirely on whether it 'feels' right. I'm not smoking a pipe for anything other that the harmony of it, really.
Favorite place or setting for a good pipe smoke?- Bed or forest
Challenges, you smoke facing a pipe? i.e. tongue bite, etc.- The biggest challenge overall was finding the 'right' pipe tobaccos and the 'right' pipes. I was lucky at the start, as I used to smoke the Frog Morton blends, some Bengal Slices, FJF, etc. Over the last few years I've dabbled in this and that tobacco-wise, with varying; mostly average results. I'm now settled on Gawith & Hoggarth. I expect that I'll smoke only G&H going forward, except for a few fanciful purchases.
It's also been very challenging to find the 'right' pipes, and I feel I've gotten it wrong a lot more often than I've gotten it right, which is evidenced by the amount I smoke the pipes I have. I've recently tried to match bowl volumes and pipe weights with my best pipes, as a purchase strategy.
Have a Sav 305 coming Thursday, so time will tell.
