Smoke slow. It's real easy to get that fantastic taste and then start "Chasing the Dragon" and huffing the pipe like train to get more only to get burnt tobacco and a bitter taste.

At first I thought they could be uncomfortable and useless (I don't really care about some teeth marks).
Then a seller sent me some as a "surprise" when I bought a couple of pipes and I gave them a try.
I'm finally able to clench some pretty heavy pipes without hurting my teeth now and without having to close my mouth in a weird way to keep them from falling...
I prefer smaller and lighter pipes but I have some heavier ones that now I can enjoy with my hands free.

Countersink the tenon, if your pipe smokes wet & gurgles. That's been about the best practical tip I've been given. Oh! Don't smoke Clan!! That was the other one. Life's too short to smoke that rubbish.

Do not worry about relighting. If it goes out just relight. Trying to keep it going by puffing like crazy is a recipe for disaster.
