A proper French bulldog. Only if they can brew beer..
Or make a decent cup of coffee ?

In Lyon (the food capital of France) several years ago - had a great cup of coffee somewhere in the old quarter. Went inside to compliment the barista only to be greeted by a broad Aussie accent. Turns out he was from Melbourne on a working trip around Europe. ?

Good beer in Alsace. But then the Germanic influence is strong throughout the history of the region.

These pipes were made by CPF. I sold one to a fellow in Japan--a perfect specimen I found at an antique shop in town. The bone tenon is identical, as is the quality of the amber ("heavy amberine"). I should never have sold that pipe. Anyway... Here is your pipe (cased) in a druggists catalog from 1906. They were variously stamped "CPF", "CPF / French Briar", or often simply [Genuine] "French Briar" in a gold leaf.

And a similar pipe off the web.

The cut and style of the pipes are unmistakable.

Yes, that apple juice-colored stem could be amber or Bakelite, but I'm betting on amber. Gorgeous pipe, I'd be over-the-moon if I found that for, say, forty dollars.
