I am British through & through and if I had to define where I live in terms of victuals it would look something like this....

Coleman's Mustard (powder, NOT the ready made pap)
Fuller's London Pride (ale)
Cheddar Cheese
Cornish Pasties
Branston Pickle
Stilton Cheese
Timothy Taylor's Landlord (ale)
H. P. Sauce
Wensleydale Cheese
P.G. Tips Tea
Walker's Crisps
Parkin (a sort of strong ginger & treacle cake made this time of year in the northern counties)
Hovis Bread
McVities Hobnobs
Theakston's Old Peculiar (ale)
Robertson's Marmalade

So folks, what delicacies do you think would define the place where you live?

Jay.

It's funny you mention this, because I met someone recently who is working on creating a regional "Wheeling Cookbook," with an emphasis on regional and homemade recipes. One of my mom's concoctions will be featured in the book once they have it finished. Pretty neat stuff.

Anyway, in West by God Virginia, I'd say a lot of the foodstuffs that define us are holdovers from our Italian and Polish immigrants that came over during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and regional twists on classic American staples. Examples of the former would be things like pepperoni rolls and soup beans, and examples of the latter would be things like slaw dogs and Dicarlos style pizza (it's pizza where the mozzarella is piled on the pizza cold).
There is also a surprisingly small but vibrant Catholic community in Wheeling and especially Steubenville, so you can already guess that Coleman fish sandwiches are a big deal.

Sally's New Haven Apizza, Pepe's or Modern or Bar also count but I'm a Sally's guy

Ted's steamed cheeseburgers

Louis Lunch - oldest hamburger joint in America

Foxon Soda

Munson's Chocolate - best in the state

Ferris Acres Ice Cream - slow churned on the farm with their own cows milks. There's Rich Farms and few others too

Cricket Hot Dogs MRKS mustard relish kraut sauce and it's their own hot sauce

Seven Seas' hot lobster rolls in Milford

And we make some great cider. Some even sell unpasteurized for a little extra kick after a week in the fridge.

BF Clyde in Mystic CT is the only steam engine powered cider and hard cider mill left in America.

There's more I'm sure but it's all I can think of now.

Knew id forgot some

Two Roads Brewery and Litchfield Distillery, Thimble Island Brewery, Counterweight Brewery (Headway) and City Steam Hartford breweries - we have probably 250 local breweries.

Vernor's Ginger Ale is the absolute best ginger ale. I wish they distributed it to other regions!
When I did the PM Secret Santa last year, I threw in a can of Vernors and a small bag of Better Made chips. Had to spread the Michigan love.

And a plug for Secret Santa to avoid the wraith of @mikethompson
