Didi, for real? That’s cool. One of the guys that Seasonally rides bikes in my group is an engineer on a scenic train n Alaska. He loves dropping the “I’m an engineer” ... mechanical, software, electrical?..... uh, Train. I hope you enjoy it..
Yes sir. It's actually not as interesting as most people would think. And yes I tell people I'm a conductor, and they say "OH you drive the train?"
Ha.
And then trying to describe my job to people is very difficult.
The engineer is in charge of the engine that pulls the freight, I'm in charge of everything behind. 16,000 ton rolling bomb going through towns.
....

My job is boring to most. I'm the accountant in charge of the one man accounting department for an insurance brokerage... dollars in and dollars out.. and all the freaking complications that go with tracking them.

I'll work an election now and then. Started as one of those directing voters to machines, assisting / answering questions, then did some check in / laptop operator, then setup and troubleshooting - and now I just sign up for laptop operator.

Right now I do red cross volunteer work at the Air Force pharmacy once a week. Phone interview, base access anyway, so the background check was pdq (worked on base for a while with a more intense background check before). Kind of reminds me of Clerks and Randal's line now and then...

I used to build highways, roads and bridges. Was lucky enough to retire at 50.

Then, for a few years, a couple of engineering friends asked me to watch other people build highways, roads and bridges. And they actually paid me to do it.

Now, I'm retired again, smoking my pipe on the porch and doing, generally, just whatever just whenever.

Grew up working on farms, became a chef, managed a few different kitchens. Experienced extreme burnout last spring and decided to hang up my tongs. Been doing Tree Removal/Trimming with a company since then.
