Hi Pagan, I don't disagree with a word you say, and I'm not sure I ever said anything was necessarily irrelevant, just that for someone like me with very little time to burn on social groups, some of the topics seem like a few people grasping thinly at making something up to talk about. Me, I tend to lean towards deeper discussions. But the point lost in all of the noise here is that all I ever said was that /I/ found some of the topics rather disinteresting--- to ME, that is a far difference from declaring that they are valueless to others, yet I have been attacked childishly as though my disinterest in some topics was some declaration of war on them that just because I don't like them, others cannot!Sir, to some it may seam irrelevant, however I personally have learned a bit from reading and posting on "Redundant" threads, such as I now know that you, like me, watch Fox News, so I assume you are not a far Left thinking person, I have also learned what members like the same blends as I, have discovered other blends to try based on some comments, and have an idea of what some members interests are but the reading material they enjoy, and determine what members have a similar sense of humor and witch ones are, lets say. more refined.
There is a lot you can learn about a person by what they say, or in this case post, and some friendships have developed on this forum, taken the brotherhood of the briar just a bit further, really not a bad thing is it?
I challenge anyone here to tell me that every thread on this group really interests them? Some have been found so silly by the moderators as to have had them removed. I think that makes my point? Personally, I've looked at some of these threads--- what are you eating, watching, smoking, listening to, and have found mixed results of interest--- TO ME, but that is just me. On the music thread, I checked out some of the music links hoping to find someone whose musical tastes were similar to mine, nope, maybe someone who built their own amplifiers or was an advanced audiophile (missed you if you were there).
Now here on another watching/smoking thread, what are people tuning in to read and debate? My opinion! Not that I ever thought it would cause such a stir. On one recent thread, members portrayed themselves proudly as followers of Diogenes, yet when someone merely puts his toe out and speaks his own mind on what HE likes or thinks as Diogenes would have, he gets slammed by another left-wing moron.
FWIW Pagan, I thoughts parts of the Diogenes thread were brilliantly funny, especially you, Coyote, and Mayfair's Haunted House post with the old man as he mumbled about quantum entanglement. I was in tears laughing. But it took me a long time before I even looked at the thread.
Everyone here has their own opinions about what is good reading and what is not, why do some feel so personally threatened by what others think that they have to resort to puerile behavior and attacks? Such people only reveal their own insecurities and flaws about themselves when they try to change the topic to one of personal attack in trying to silence and discredit a person rather than openly debate opinions they don't agree with.
I'm sure you do learn some things about people in some of these threads and even make friendships. I have. All I ever said is that some of these threads haven't interested or made a lot of sense to me! The fact that THAT was such a big deal pretty much made my point.
Am I a far Left thinking person? You KNOW that I'm not! The problem this country faces today is that the moderate of today is actually middle left and what is called right wing now was the moderate democrat of the sixties. The democratic party of today has been hijacked and is unrecognizable to the democrats of fifty years ago. Free speech no longer exists on many university campuses and students now are routinely taught to attack those that do not think as they do. Kinda like here. I was once even accused here of being an old member come back in disguise. All over this country old and young alike (more so with the young) protest violently on issues that when pressed, admit they are not really even sure what they are protesting about! And they have their facts all jumbled.
Blame that on the mainstream media.
So, no, I was not even attacking this thread or that; it is not up to ME to decide what other people like to read. I was only merely saying what I like to read and find more interesting, and like you, find and make friends of similar ideas in doing so.
