9 yrs ago when I first started reading this forum's conversations / threads, I was incredulous that anyone could smoke as much as JimInks and still taste anything. Since then, I know more about what I'm doing and my taste buds are much more sensitive/receptive once I stopped inhaling. (I'd 'converted' from RYO to a MM Legend)
The fact that Jim refreshes this thread monthly, makes it a way to see who's active, around, or has something to share with those of us who check in to What Are You Smoking?
by the way: Jim hasn't slowed down one bit!

I go through phases of higher activity, but I've lately been smoking basically the same thing whenever I smoke a pipe, either GL pease Embarcadero or c&d Briar Fox, so I don't want to just keep posting the same thing over and over.

I've always been more interested in the tobacco side of things than the pipes, so for me what I'm smoking things in is never as interesting.

However, it is fun to look at all the beautiful pipes I'll never own, some are true works of art.

I like the twin threads of WAYS and cigars, and when I was doing a monthly sample cigar, I posted both places. The cigar focused can concentrate on that, and the generalists can visit both. I wouldn't object if someone posted their snuff on WAYS, once or twice a year, despite the clear lack of smoke involved. Cigarettes, no ... although that is an arbitrary call. This is a pipes site. I don't make the rules.

Unfortunately, I was in PA when you were visiting in NY. It would’ve been interesting to meet at the SoHo Cigar Bar, which is only a few blocks from my office.
Too bad. It would have been nice to meet you. What part of PA were you visiting? My Mother-in-law lives just outside of Milford.

I like to take a look at what folks are smoking (and the nice pipes) now and again, but there's no way I can keep up, which messes with my completist tendencies. I post when I think it would be interesting... I should take some pix to liven it up.

We have a house in the Lehigh Valley area and split our time between there and an apartment in Brooklyn, NY. Our friends who own the craft beer bar in Brooklyn where we first met have a house in Milford. Milford seems like an active, fun, area.

Being new to the hobby and forum, it’s a great way to routinely interact with members, get to know whose tastes are what in pipes, tobaks, and general feel for personalities.
Internet forums are best when you can sort who does what they say vs who regurgitates what they read online. I like to learn from the experience those who have done things, and walk what they talk.
Likewise, since I’m looking to stick around it lets y’all get to know me. I may not know much, but plan on growing and giving back what I got freely for others.

I only visit here occasionally, mainly because I'm a crap photographer, the problem is I am a long time pipe smoker but it seems that one of the qualifications is that you should whip your phone thingy out and take a snap with the oblong thing that most people seem to have to walk with it in front of him or her, I have managed this for over 60 years without the black oblong thing in front of me, I feel that this could put many pipe smokers off from conversation on this Forum, I would rather have my pipe in front of me than the oblong black thingy. puffy

tobakanist, I used photography regularly in various jobs in my working life, but I never fully made the transition to digital photography, much less juggling the images onto other devices to put them online, alas.

I have a few photos on my desktop that I occasionally, clumsily, transfer to my posts here with mediocre results. Adapting to changed devices and programs every few months is lost on me.

To people more recently born, it is all just a merry video game. If it doesn't work, try eighteen other maneuvers, no problem. To me, it is as if nothing works.

In the olden days, the phone company never asked you to fix your own phone, to do the lineman work and re-rig the wires. It worked or it didn't, and if it didn't, someone fixed it. Ha!

To be honest, I'm not sure if my crappy pictures enhance my posts in WAYS, or are a distraction. ;) Just speaking for myself, the text-only posts (or those with a "stock picture") are plenty enjoyable too.

On a moderate day for me, I smoke 6 pipes, and up to 14. But, I average 8-12 pipes in a day. I did try for a few years to constantly post to WAYS, but it just gets to be too much. I just occasionally post, like when I open a particularly interesting tin or jar, or am smoking one of my more picturesque pipes.

I do scan through the thread occasionally.
