My tastes vary widely, and I can't even predict what my next smoke is going to be until I get to the point of deciding. The American version of Carter Hall is a fine smoke, but like everything else, it gets smoked when I'm in the mood for it.
Jim, I can't imagine your selection process.

You have a collection of who knows how many classic pipes to choose from and I really can't get my mind around how many blends to choose from.

It would be like standing in front of a map of the US and wondering, "Hmmm, wonder where I will go today?"
So you just take a dart and throw it and go where it sticks. ;)

Looks like you are having a nice relaxing time in Maine. I did some Atlantic salmon fishing on the Penobscot river near Orrington many years ago. I grew up in Western Maine and my last job before leaving the state about 30 years ago was with the power company building and maintaining substations in southern Maine. Did a lot of driving up and down Route 1. One of my favorite jobs was maintaining switch gear in the Old Port in Portland. It was a beautiful place 30 years ago. It has been about 15 years since I visited Portland. Never seem to have time to get down there when visiting family.

Safe travels.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and green beans dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm half way through this bowl of year 2012 Rolando’s Own in a smooth straight 1960s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Harry the Hairy needed some play time, so I rolled plastic balls with a bell in them down the hall, and he chased and chased them until he wore out. He came back to the den, looked at me, laid down near my feet, and stretched out a few minutes to recover. Then, he wanted out, but enjoyed the head and back scratches before he left.
