Latest Smokes of Note: Concentrating on my three break-in pipes, with dark cavendishes, with cigar interludes, mostly. The break ins are all now on their 2nd smoke, starting #2 today on the Peterson Tavern Rhodesian, with Borkum Riff Dark Cavendish, a particular favourite tobacco of mine.
Yesterday's break-in was the completion of the second with the
Lubinsky Olive, with
Captain Black Dark Cavendish:

This pipe is a great smoker, very similar in smoking qualities to the Peterson Tavern pipe. They are real smokers, company pipes, to be enjoyed with others. More on this in
Skippable Drivel.
Here are the 3 pipes I'm doing the serial break-in operation with, filling each pipe with a dark cavendish, smoking half the bowl, finishing the tobacco the following day. This seemingly clumsy system is working very well. Not doing the hell bent for leather thing I usually do, that inevitably gives me tongue bite and causes me to whine a lot.
This system also gives the pipe a four day rest before its turn in rotation. I think this is also good for the pipe. Lubinsky on the top, the Peterson in the middle, and the Brog "Birdie" on the bottom.

Skippable Drivel: The domestic stuff is gradually receding, and I expect a return to some sort of normalcy in about a week, then time to relax and fish a bit, and get my forum participation back to some kind of routine.
In the mean time, I thought I might show you my little family of Petersons. I'm really not a collector, and can't really afford historic or a lot of expensive pipes. But this mini-collection is really a display of three of the best pipes I own.

Each has it's place now in my pipe life. The big system standard is the pipe I go to with company. A very large capacity pipe, I can talk, and enjoy a couple of hours in a social situation and just smoke without fiddling. Love it.
The middle Peterson, which I call "Little Pete", smokes different. It's a sipper. Slow and thoughtful. I usually smoke this pipe alone in contemplative mode. Silence. Golden. Biased for Balkans with Lats, a genre I enjoy. It's kind of my personal pipe. Love it.
The bottom pipe, the new Rhodesian, is like Big Pete. It's a smoker. It will be great as a shorter company pipe, and the break - ins give me a good hour. Perfect. It's not called a Tavern Pipe by the Peterson company without reason. Love it.
Thought it time to show the family to y'all, eh? Be back when I'm back. Cheers and have a great Friday.
