Latest Smokes of Note: Concentrating on my three break-in pipes, with dark cavendishes, with cigar interludes, mostly. The break ins are all now on their 2nd smoke, starting #2 today on the Peterson Tavern Rhodesian, with Borkum Riff Dark Cavendish, a particular favourite tobacco of mine.

Yesterday's break-in was the completion of the second with the Lubinsky Olive, with Captain Black Dark Cavendish:

This pipe is a great smoker, very similar in smoking qualities to the Peterson Tavern pipe. They are real smokers, company pipes, to be enjoyed with others. More on this in Skippable Drivel.

Here are the 3 pipes I'm doing the serial break-in operation with,
filling each pipe with a dark cavendish, smoking half the bowl, finishing the tobacco the following day. This seemingly clumsy system is working very well. Not doing the hell bent for leather thing I usually do, that inevitably gives me tongue bite and causes me to whine a lot.

This system also gives the pipe a four day rest before its turn in rotation. I think this is also good for the pipe. Lubinsky on the top, the Peterson in the middle, and the Brog "Birdie" on the bottom.

Skippable Drivel: The domestic stuff is gradually receding, and I expect a return to some sort of normalcy in about a week, then time to relax and fish a bit, and get my forum participation back to some kind of routine.

In the mean time, I thought I might show you my little family of Petersons. I'm really not a collector, and can't really afford historic or a lot of expensive pipes. But this mini-collection is really a display of three of the best pipes I own.

Each has it's place now in my pipe life. The big system standard is the pipe I go to with company. A very large capacity pipe, I can talk, and enjoy a couple of hours in a social situation and just smoke without fiddling. Love it.

The middle Peterson, which I call "Little Pete", smokes different. It's a sipper. Slow and thoughtful. I usually smoke this pipe alone in contemplative mode. Silence. Golden. Biased for Balkans with Lats, a genre I enjoy. It's kind of my personal pipe. Love it.

The bottom pipe, the new Rhodesian, is like Big Pete. It's a smoker. It will be great as a shorter company pipe, and the break - ins give me a good hour. Perfect. It's not called a Tavern Pipe by the Peterson company without reason. Love it.

Thought it time to show the family to y'all, eh? Be back when I'm back. Cheers and have a great Friday.
Nice stable @gord . Your photos really show them well, too!

I've passed the last quarter of this bowl of year 2013 Capstan Blue Flake in a straight black 1963 Dunhill LB Shell 4S billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Daisy the Feral Princess (I had to pick her up) and Tomato the Brave enjoyed their wet food time, and then Daisy went out to lay on the lounge. Then, I let Harry the Hairy in to eat and gave him much needed attention before he went out. Tomato stayed in and played with the rope.

I used to build longboards and did the same thing with my boys. My sons and my two older daughters used to go to my church’s big empty parking lot and skate for hours. Been about a year since I’ve ridden; got into rat rod bicycles instead.
That is really cool! Sounds like you have a lot of great memories with skating. I haven't been skating in about 4-5 years easy. I'm really starting to miss it, haha.

I admittedly have never heard of rat rod bicycles before. But after a quick Google search i saw a few examples and they look very cool. That definitely looks like a fun hobby. I can especially appreciate the wrenching aspect of it. Making it your own and going for a ride.

Do you ever go for a ride while smoking a pipe? I can see it being fun, but also a pain due to the wind.

Almost a quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2020 H&H Chatham Manor in a straight black sandblasted, smooth dark brown top bowl 2021 Jim Brown stack Rhodesian with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Watching the Pirates-Nats game. Tomato the Brave wore himself out, and went outside.

Last smoke of the day is year 2000 SWRA in a straight, black sandblasted pre-1970 Comoy’s Sunrise Etched Grain straight apple 551 with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Harry the Hairy came in to eat and then got on my lap for attention before he went out. Tomato the Brave came in to eat, and displayed his usual hi-jinks. Daisy the Feral Princess came in to eat, and Tomato kept bugging her because he was hyper-maxed. He'd run at full speed to the kitchen, and I'd chase him out. This happened three times. When Daisy finished eating she came to the den, saw Tomato looking at her, and hid behind my chair. Tomato went over to where she was. I opened the door and told him to go outside, which he did. He knew he was misbehaving, but he just couldn't help himself, the li'l stinker. Daisy's laying on a catnip sock.

Oz, seeing your bulk bag of Squadron Leader reminded me of a discussion I read recently about it tasting differently in the bulk vs. the tin. I considered buying a bulk bag but have held off for that reason. Do you notice any difference in the two??
