Having some cube cut Wessex Gold plug VA in my Briarworks C52 with coffee on the side. All the while the hummingbirds conduct a coup on the feeders.
Not sure how many of you have hummingbird feeders, but often dominant ones will "take over" a feeder and run all of their buddies away. This went on for a while and finally the peasants stormed the Bastille and ran the dominant ones off. Now, they are feeding like there's no tomorrow, ha.
Had the horses up in stalls last night due to the much needed rain. But now I have to go clean stalls and do some repair work. Shoveling horse manure is a sure-fire method of putting one back in one's place in the universe.

Trying a new cigar blend this morning as a first bowl in the Pete Newgrange B10 with coffee. Going to head out into the warm air for a smoke then come back and make some eggs, boudin and bacon for breakfast. Dinner was too substantial to even be interested in eating for a while this morning.

Smoking this legendary tobacco from Mac Baren: Amsterdamer. In a MM Cobbler. A gift from a friend who was on vacation in Andorra with his wife and daughters. Well, it's a tobacco that sells very well here in Spain, especially for rolling cigarettes. I would have liked to write a brief review of this tobacco, but my sense of smell is not 100% and could lead to a misleading result. All I can say, having smoked it on other occasions in the past, is that I remember it as a good everyday tobacco, easy to smoke, mild, with few relights and low nicotine content. A subtle fruity, hay-like touch. Somewhat flat and neutral. An everyday tobacco, or a tobacco for battle, as we say here in Spain. What do you think? Has anyone else tried it? Do you like it? Rating: 2/4 stars.

Hummingbirds aggressively defend reliable food sources as a survival instinct due to their fast metabolism. They need to eat often, so if they find a patch of reliable flowers in the wild (or a hanging feeder that's always miraculously full) they stick close and make sure no one else depletes it so they don't have to go find another food source. My mom loves her feeders and they are fun to watch when i'm out on her deck having a smoke.
I also have had one harrowing encounter with a hummingbird once while building a house. I had the home all framed up and sheathing on the walls and roof, but when i came back to install roofing i noticed that a paper wasp was already staring a nest under one of the eves where i was going to be working from a lower roof. I didn't want the bother, so i grabbed my hammer and knocked the nest down. Right at that moment i heard a loud buzz come quickly upon me from behind and i was about to run off the edge of that roof because it sounded like the mother of all bees. haha Turned out it was just a hummingbird coming around exploring and seeing what was going on. The timing was impeccable!

I've been recuperating from double transplants and a stroke, and have been mostly smoking cigars instead of my pipes. I opened my cellar for the first time in 5 years. I was so happy to see several tins of the McClelland Frog Morton series. So I'm starting on a tin of Cellar. Oh how I missed it so.
