Being a maker of a different hand crafted product (not pipes) I would encourage folks to go direct. Makers pay extra attention to personal customers and its also a few extra bucks in their pockets which they often need to stay afloat. Its tough these days as an artisan.

I went out side last night for a final puff of Lane 1-Q in the Peterson and suddenly there was a really loud horrific scream right near me followed by a grunting hoot ... it was so over the top I didn't have time to be startled and thought what the heck is that ! Apparently it must have been a Great Horned Owl in a tree directly above me or on the roof and was giving a protective territory warning. I felt much safer after that knowing that thing was watching over the property ! I extinguished the bowl and went to bed.
