I don't currently have a photo -- I suppose I should get in the habit of posting an occasional photo to the "what are you smoking" thread, but they're nearly always cobs and clays, so I figured it's not in the show n tell category.

I like the bigger bowl, and the horn stem itself seems to be pretty good quality, and has the same draw (small diameter airway) that a fully clay pipe of that type would have. It's from a mold of the old American colonial tavern pipes.

Tonight this Savinelli poker is getting the Rustica treatment.

Just this week I was fortunate enough to connect with a fellow piper who had some of this to spare - the 2020 HH Rustica, ahead of the 2021 release. You bet I ordered a few tins of the new batch, and after my first smoke of its predecessor I might have to go back and order more.

If you know, you know. If you don’t know, phone a friend! Holy-! is this stuff good. The tin note is incredible. And the smoke - sneaky sweet but slightly sour at the same time. Like fermented dark, pitted fruits rendered to a smooth compote. Creamy in the way that a good stout should be. Is it strong? - sure. Go easy. But it’s not giving me the nic punch I was expecting after reading other reviews. Zero bite, just outstanding flavor, aroma, and texture. This is a treat to be savored. And I am. Cheers!

Whole leaf blend. I call it sailors twist. A dark, rich, stout and cool smoke.

60% kentucky
20% red and bright Virginia
20% latakia

soaked with black spiced rum and twisted up and stoved for 16 hours until black. Thick clouds of cool smoke. No bite, no matter how you puff. I am smoking the version where I don’t stove the Latakia and add it after. Stoving the Latakia really mellows it into something else and looses some smokiness, but the flavours really meld. Not sure which I like better.
