Unfortunately, the restricted draw is the least of my concern. The briar gets extremely hot very quickly.
The two things could be linked—drawing hard on the pipe because of the restricted draw might be causing the tobacco to burn hot. If you open up the airway and the draw is more open, you might solve both problems at once.

I kid, but do enjoy your pipe pictures and concept of having them colored before you buy the estate pipe (or just force @weezell to color them for you). Again, I kid.
